jsrock516 You really do rock! Thank you.

Super, it worked. Had not noticed that little button, now one more problem.

My ex was using the machine when this happened and now I cannot close the door. I try to use pause/open door and that does not work, ust turns off the control panel. I can't reach the plug to unplug it for a while as suggested. He said he did not jimmy it open. I am afraid to force it as I might really break it more. Any suggestions?

Press and hold the "END OF CYCLE SIGNAL" button for three seconds and it will unlock the control panel. At least, I think that is the button for the Whirlpool Duet. If you look closely at the front panel, it will clearly state "Press and Hold for 3 Seconds to Lock" on one of the panel buttons (should be all the way to the RIGHT HAND SIDE). This button is designed as a safety feature to prevent small children from being able to operate the washer and inadverntenty getting locked inside the unit. If holding the button fails, unplug the washer for at least 30 minutes to reset the computer. I hope this helps.

Well, if you can't reach the plug, find the circuit breaker at the service and turn it off for at least 30 minutes. In many cases, this is all that is required to clear momentary computer glitches. Another method involves removing the lower panel under the door and using the manual release to open the door. The following link explains:

Hopefully, you will find the breaker and that will correct your problem. If not, you have the secondary method in the link provided. I hope this helps you.

Anyone know why

If the machine has a mechanical control, the timer is stuck in a certain position. Whatever cycle it is stuck on will continue to run until the timer is advanced to the next setting. If you have an electronic board controlling things then that board is defective and needs to be replaced.

U might try unplugging unit to see if that affects the electronics. If manual timer, unplug unit and move the cam yourself to the next position.

Washer is stuck in "control locked mode" and won't start. It's normally in door locked mode. Whirlpool duet

The Control Lock is a safety feature that enables the consumer to lock the control panel to prevent children from manipulating the controls and accidentally starting the appliance.

With the lock on, the control panel is disabled and you cannot use any of the controls, except the button to unlock it. It can inadvertently be set following a power outage, leaning against the control panel, or pressing and holding the wrong button. This is usually not an indication of a malfunction.

If this is a Whirlpool manufactured appliance (such as Kenmore Elite, Maytag Epic or Whirlpool Duet), the following link explains how to lock/unlock this feature:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608801-control_panel_lock

These instructions are also printed on the front panel of the appliance and in the owner's manual.

If this does not correct your problem, then you may have a more serious problem other than a simple operator control button issue (such as an operator console problem or main control board issue). Please post back and let me know if you need further assistance. .

When washer was off it filled up with water and overflowed will a water inlet valve fix this. this is a whilpool washer frontload ghw9100lq1

Yes, it should. The only way water can enter a washer when off, is through a stuck inlet valve, or by siphoning water from a drain hose installed too deeply in the stand pipe. If your machine had enough water coming in to overflow, that definitely sounds like a bad inlet valve.
