Front bearing Sears Dryer 417.80042990

Jimster,
I have read your reply regarding the scorch issue and replacing the front bearing. This morning I went to the partsdirect site to order the part, but I am not sure which part I need.  I clicked on the link you gave but it only brought up the first page of the site.  And Part #20 on the drum page has nothing to do with the bearing (I think).
Could you please help me identify exactly which part I need.

SOURCE: Frigidaire dryer FSG747GES1

Hello Kathy, sorry it took me a bit to get back with you. Is it correct that you do have a Frigidaire? And the model number is correct? If so, we can get started. There are two types of front bearings that come with these units. They could have the 4 small flat type bearing, or the large felt type with the bearings attached. The diagram that I see looks like it just has the long felt glide (Part # 5303937139) . To access this, remove the two screws at the rear of the top cover. The cover will lift off. Now the fun part (for gawds sake, make sure the unit is unplugged) you will look down inside and see two screws that hold the front to the cabinet. Remove these screws. Now, with a kind, yet tough grip, you want to seperate the front. Tug at the top, you will here something that sounds like it broke, but it hasnt, there are clips that hold the front to the cabinet. There are two swing hinges at the very bottom, you can remove your wires (please remember there locations on the switchs) then lift the cover off. You can now work on your felts. I would recommend replacing the lower felt (Part # 5303283286). Be sure you have on hand some very (VERY) good high grade, heat activated glue for your parts. You should be able to get that stuff at your local appliance parts store. Be sure you get your parts from there too, Sears is way (WAY.....) to expensive on parts and shipping. I should know (wisper...I work for them now). Installation is reverse of break-down, just be sure you get the drum back on the felt glides right, easiest way is to open the door, put your hand inside, and lift the drum while pushing the front back on. Make sure you run the unit on high heat, no clothes inside for a little while to seat the glue. Let me know what else you may need. Thanks and good luck.

The back of dryer drum rubs on the gas diffuser lip

You did get the right replacement bearing assembly; did you also replace the bearing retainer and ground strap to the gas diffuser?
I'm sure you followed the repair procedures as described in this video http://youtu.be/MPXu-Ya8CBY
And if you did double check everything I suggested- then the next thing I would have to ask, is the noise you are hearing only happening when the dryer is full of clothes or does it also occur when the drum is empty?
If the noise occurs only when the dryer has clothes in it, you may be overloading the dryer.
If the dryer is making the noise whether the drum is loaded or unloaded, then the next logical step is to check for level.
Place a carpenter's level on top of the dryer; check it side to side; and front to back; adjust the leveling legs if necessary.
From my experience, a scraping sound could be caused by metal or hard plastic objects getting caught between the cabinet and front seal of the drum. And you already had it apart to replace the front bearing and slides; and I'm sure you inspected the diffuser for any damage or being out of round when you installed the rear bearing...at this point, predicated you did replace the bearing retainer and ground strap- the only 3 things you didn't replace is the gas diffuser, the drum, and diffuser- not to suggest that you do :) Please keep me posted. Best regards.

Motor belt replacement sears dryer

You need to pull the drum forward so the belt can slide off of the back around the bearing housing in the middle. Replace the bearing sleeve in it while you are at it. I would have to see your dryer to see if you remove the front support or can disconnect the bearing housing from the rear. Not hard once you get it. I also usually change the plastic pulleys and stuff while there.

My Maytag Performa dryer is making a horrible sound...still working though. Wondering if it is a belt?? Can I fix myself?

go to Sears and purchase the belt with an idler pulley with it. It comes as a kit. The pulleys bearing has dried out bearing that went flat in spots which causes this horrible noise
the top and the front of your dryer needs to come off to access these parts

Clothes get hung between tumbler tub and front of dryer and are scorched, what parts do I need to fix this?

You probably need a new glide kit on front panel
Unplug it and pop the topa068344.jpg to get into the machine and take a look see. This is the most simple of all dryers to repair. It uses glides on front for the tub to ride on and it uses a hanger 3e1ec1c.jpgbearing in the rear for the drum to ride on. The plastic cup that the drum is cradled in wears down to metal to metal and can actually be cut in half causing the drum to drop down and lock up. This dryer is very easy to work on. MORE HERE

Clothes get hung or catch in the dryer and buttons get torn off or the clothes sometimes get scorched. I have a 2 year old Frigidaire front loader. Model # LEQ2152EE0. Any advice -- other than buy a new...

I believe your problem is worn out drum glides. You should examine the drum to see if the paint is not worn off where the glides make contact. A loss of coating there will accelerate wear on the new replacement glides. Also the bearing at the rear of the drum should be inspected and replaced if worn, or re lubricated if serviceable. The bearing should be a simple ball and socket assembly.

Sears Dryer 417.80042990

What is happening here, is that the front bering (the area between the front and the drum) has become worn. Its not a very expensive or time consuming job really. Remove the top, then remove the front. You will tilt down the front and door assembly. Dont worry about the drum falling out, Frigidaire uses a ball and hitch rear bering that will hold it in place. On the very top of the door opening indise the front cover (where the drum rides on that felt) you should see a felt like covering with like 4 or 5 plastic type drum glides. Replace the top half of this felt with those plastic glides attached (should be attached). Just re-glue the felt to the drum (glue should come with part, and watch it, this glue is for real if you get it on you). If you wanted to be a real explorer, its always a good idea the lube or grease the rear bering of these Frigidaire's while your this far into it. If you want to, just remove the belt (remembering how it went back on the idler pully), then, with two towels around your hands, grasp the drum at around the 10 o'clock position and tug upwards to remove the drum from the rear bering. Also be sure to remove the drum upper support (yellow looking clip thing front center that will hold the drum until you remove it). Use a good quality-high temp grease inside the bering and the ball on the back of the drum. This will ensure you wont have to go back in there again normally for the rest of your dryers lifetime. Enclosed a picture of the front bering glides and felt:

And a small break down of the front section. Your part will be #20 that you will be replacing.
