Question about Mitsubishi WS-55809 55" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Multiple images We recently had an electrical storm, and since that time we are getting multiple images on the screen. We get several vertial bands, and within each of there are finer horizontal bands. Occasionally I can unplug the S-video input cable and the system will come back to normal, but it always goes back out again after a few minutes. I have tried all of the video inputs on the set to see if there is a difference between S-video input and standard video, but there is not. Also, the set does the same thing when I try to use my DVD player as the input instead of the satellite box.

Re: multiple images

I don't think your problem had anything to do with the storm!!
I had problem with my Mitsubishi ws-55809 I was getting bowing color bands. It was an intermittent problem. I pulled out the video board out of the set. Not to bad of job just make notes on connections. I soldered the video driver. It was big and had many connections. Most where loose. My set has worked for about 5 months without any problems.

On Rear Projection TVs there is a thing called "convergence" in which the color bands are lined up so that they can mix to make the colors that we see on the screen. When a TV of this type is moved or bumped around, or even near a source of electrical interference it can throw this out of alignment. Many TVs have options in their menus to set convergence.

I believe it is under Menu > Picture > Convergence I'm having trouble finding the exact process used for this, but it will be noted in your user guide as well.
If this does not resolve the issue you may need to purchase a convergence repair kit which requires a considerable amount of electrical knowledge and can take several hours to repair.

Color not sharp

Display Panel faults:
Vertical (source) faults are usually within the actual panel (Lines/Bands down Picture)
Horizontal (gate) faults are unually within the actual panel (Bands/Lines across the screen)
Better take it to a service station to check it.

Image/mirror adjustment

Ah, it seems that you might very well have a few voltages off as there aren't many other adjustments that can be made without seriously offsetting quite a few mechanical tolerances. Has the set been dropped or bumped severely? Moved recently? If no to the above questions, you really should verify all power supply specs before doing any "precision bending". Many times, a set that has the symptoms you describe just need work on getting the power supply a "green light" before taking any other action...accordianman

Samsung rear projection tv has multiple images with differnet colors

The auto self focus screws up if the picture does not remain constant or close to it while focusing. It is designed to self focus every fifteen minutes. Go to menu and then setup and turn the auto focus feature off. I have had mine off for the past year and have had no problems. If you slide the bottom portion of the remote down you will see a self focus button. My suggestion is to put a DVD in and hit the pause button during a scene and then hit the self focus button. It should align back up and may take a couple of tries. (If you have an aftermarket remote, just enter the menu and then setup and you can activate the self focus feature, just don't turn it to auto focus!)
