The download manager starts automatically when you click the download button on Dell website.

Check also if you have an option to start download manager manually from start menu>>all programs>>Dell

Check here : Dell Download Store - FAQ

I quote
"The download button can be found on the Order Confirmation page. Your product or products can be downloaded by clicking the Download button. (If you have closed the Order Confirmation page, you can re-display it by clicking My Locker and then clicking Order History. Find your order and then click the View button.)

When you click the Download button, the Dell Download Manager application will be launched. For first time users of the Download Manager, you will be prompted for permission to run and use the application. Upon acceptance, the Download Manager will begin downloading the software you purchased. From within the Download Manager, you will be able to Pause and Resume your download, or Cancel it. Upon the successful completion of the software, you will be given the opportunity to install the software via the Install button which will appear in the Download Manager once the software has finished downloading."

No sound on gateway laptop mx8738 after changing to xp

You'll have to update (downdate since XP is older than Vista, lol) the audio drivers for XP, the ones for Vista apparently are compatable.
http://support.gateway.com/us/en/product/default.aspx?partNumber=1014556R

download, save to desktop, unpack the file then go to start, then go to the device manager.
You can open Device Manager by double-clicking on the System icon in Control Panel, choosing the Hardware tab, and clicking Device Manager.

Locate the audio driver (it should have a yellow symbol next to it which indicates a problem with the device or driver) right click on the audio driver that needs updating, choose update driver, update the driver automatically, if it doesn't find the driver you downloaded then locate driver manually and point it to the location on your desktop where the driver is located. This should solve your problem.

My acer e725 dvd drive is not playing dvd that is only play cds

you may have a driver problem. Get on the Acer website, click on the support, then drivers & downloads. This should take you to a page that requires you to fill in information about your lab top (name, model, identification number, windows system, etc.) once you have giving the information it will direct you to the drivers page. Then download the driver that matches your system.

It would be a good idea to go to the Device Manager first and locate the DVD name (and/or model number--yes this is different from your computer's model number). Without this information you will not know which driver to download for your system. Sometimes Acer uses 2 or more manufactures for the hard devices you have to know which one you have.

If you are unsure how to get to the Device Manager just click on start, then control panel (if you have windows 7) go to Systems and Security, and under System the Device Manager will be listed. Click on Device Manager, then go to DVD/CD and click on the triangle arrow this will expand the list and show you the device you have.

I hope this helps.

Sound driver issue

Instructions
    • 1 Check your speakers and make sure they are connected to the right inputs on your computer before proceeding to check the sound drivers.
    • 2 Click the Windows "Start" button and click the "Control Panel." Double-click "System" and click the "Hardware" tab. Click the "Device Manager." For Windows Vista users, click "Hardware and Sound" and click "Device" manager. The Device Manager allows you to verify the status of drivers and hardware running on your computer.
    • 3 Scroll down the Device Manager until you locate "Sound, video and game controller." Click the "+" button next to it to expand it. You should see a list of sound drivers on your computer. If you see a question or exclamation mark on any of the drivers, it means it is either corrupt or missing.
    • 4 Right-click the sound driver that has a question or exclamation mark and click "Properties." You should see a title stating that the device is not working properly if it is damaged. Click the "Driver" tab and click "Update." Follow the wizard to install the audio drivers. Move to the next step if this does not solve the audio problem.
    • 5 Write down your computer model number. The location of the number varies with different computer models, but can generally be found on the back off your system.
    • 6 Go to your computer manufacturer's website and look for the drivers and downloads page. Use your computer model number to locate the sound drivers.
    • 7 Download the sound drivers when you have found the right ones (they are different with different computer models) and install them on your computer. Go back to the Device Manager and verify that the question and exclamation marks are no longer there.
    • 8 Restart your computer. Verify that the sound is now available by launching a media program (e.g. Windows Media Player) and playing back an audio file.

My volume control doesnt work.

The volume control of your computer is not accessible because the Sound Device Software is not properly installed.

Check the System Properties for Installed Device in your computer:
  1. From your Desktop Screen, click on Start Menu
  2. Choose, Run ( In Windows Vista, Start Menu > Accessories > Run )
  3. Type, sysdm.cpl ( to open the System Properties Windows)
  4. In System Properties choose the Hardware tab
  5. Click the Device Manager button
All Hardware Device are listed in the Device Manager.

Install the missing driver for sound device, refer the software from the CD driver of your laptop.

Alternative Software Driver is also available through the Acer Support Download Website.

In Service Support Page, select your location to proceed.

In the software driver downloads, it is important to select the right model of your laptop and the operating system you're using to avoid system errors and driver conflicts.

Device Manager found a problem with the driver and can not be fixed automatically. Need to download the Integrated CD-RW/DVD Combo Driver.

If the drive is showing an error (or is missing) in device manager, do the following:

Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click O.K)
Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor.

Hope this helps
