How do I change the water filter on a Frigidaire FRS6R5EMB

If it's the model I'm thinking of, it has a screw in filter cup up in the rear, upper right corner of the fresh foods section. Just twist that weird shaped cup on the bottom counter-clockwise and then pull down on it. It should come out with the filter in it. Then, just take out the filter, put a new one in, and then screw the filter cup back into place.

From a manual of a similar model to yours:

To change filter:
It is not necessary to turn the water supply off to change the filter.
1. Open freezer door and leave open until filter change is
complete.
2. Turn OFF side mounted ice maker by raising wire signal
arm to the UP position. Turn OFF rear mounted ice maker
by pressing ON/OFF power switch to the "O" position.
3. Hold filter cup firmly, and unscrew towards left (Some water
could leak out as you remove cup. This is normaL). Filter
cartridge should come down with cup. If cartridge remains in
housing, puli down gentl_; while twisting filter back and forth.
4. Rinse out cup under running water.
5. The large o-ring that seals the filter system fits in the o-ring
groove inside the cup. Should the o-ring fail out during filter
cartridge replacement, simply place it back in the groove
prior to screwing the cup back in place. If the o-ring becomes
damaged, you wiIIneed to order one from the Flectmtux
Solutions Hottine.
6. Discard old filter cartridge.
7. Remove new filter cartridge from packaging. Place in cup. The
end with the small o-ring should be up, out of the cup.
8. Screw cup, with filter, back onto housing. Do Not Use Wrench
To Reinstall Cup= Filter cartridge will self-align as cup is
tightened. Be sure cup is completely tightened with
PureSource TM logo facing outward. Do Not Tighten Past Stop.
9. Turn ON side mounted ice maker by lowering wire signal
arm to the DOWN position. Turn ON rear mounted ice
maker by pressing ON/OFF power switch to the 'T' position.
10. Check for Ieaks. Open refrigerator door. Wipe any water droplets
from the filter cup. Fi[Ia glass with water. If there is a leak,
unscrew filter cup, and reinsert the filter cartridge. Check
placement of large O-ring. Reinstall filter cup, making certain it is
tightened complete!_,_
11= To prime filter system and purge air from water line,
continue flushing the system for approximately 3 minutes
to assure that the purest water possible is stored in the
water tank. There win be noticeab[e spurts and sputters
as the system pushes air out through the system and
out the dispenser nozzle,This is normal.

Unit leaks after changing filter

I have one of these units, just replaced it last night. First off, determine where it's leaking. The filter cartridge is generally inside a cylindrical cup with a screw thread at the top. Leaks here would either be that the wall has a hole in it (replace the canister), the male threaded area has been damaged and is not round (replace the canister, the mating female thread is damaged or out of round (replace that part), or you're leaking through where the threads meet. (If the leak is not in this are, then the leak-fixing turns into generic plumbing - find out where the water if getting out. If it's hose, replace the segment, if it's a valve, replace the valve or valve seat.

Assuming it's the filter holder - check both thread faces for contaminants or grit. Some filters (like mine, fed with well water, come out covered in gack. If that gack- fine sand/silt from the water, gets in the threads, it can create a widening there on the thread that the screwing-in just spreads down the thread. In any case, clean both surfaces carefully with a clean, lint-free cloth.

After that, I've had great success wrapping a couple of circles of plumbers teflon tape onto the male thread of the filter holder. Get a roll of reasonably wide teflon plumbers tape and run it clockwise (looking down from above the cup) around the thread 2 or three times, keeping some tension on the tape, and then tension tearing the tape. Smooth it down, clockwise. Now mount the filter to the screw in point, and then carefully screw in the filter body. You wrap the tape this direction so that tightening the screw will tend to flow the outer end of the tape toward it's end, rather than back on itself. hand tighten, and then, when firm, tighten another quarter turn or so. The tape will do a great job of sealing the slightly larger gaps between the threads, and probably fixing the leak.

BTW, good pricing on the filters here: http://bit.ly/1Opkuh8 though back ordered at present, and here

Good Luck!

Water dispenser leaks when getting water . This is Frigidare refrigerator , is it the valve on back ?

Hello Marie Baxter: If you suspect the water dispenser is leaking, make sure it is the hoses coming from the filter and not the actual filter.

Sometimes the clamps on the hoses for fridge water filters can come loose or the hose itself could crack; in which case the hose would need replacing (or tightening the clamp), and not the filter.

If you clearly find the filter is leaking, the best thing to do is make sure it is installed properly.

If it is securely in place, then you may just have a defective filter and changing it will solve the leaking.

You will need to remove the filter, which is typically located in the back of the refrigerator and inspect it to see what condition it is in.

•For instance, if it is black or looks dirty, you probably will want to replace it.

•Moreover, when there is a leak or a clog, you will notice a dramatic decrease in the output of the water dispenser tab, which is another sign there may be a leak in the water filter. If you know the water filter in your refrigerator is leaking, then you can take the water filter out and see if it has anything loose on it, but typically if it is leaking, it probably is best to replace the water filters for refrigerators.

•This is especially true if you use the filtered water from the refrigerator as your main home water filter systems.

•Moreover, if it has been awhile since you changed the filter; it can become clogged over time, which can cause it to leak.

When you are faced with having a leaking filter refrigerator water unit, it helps to think through the pros and cons of fixing the leak vs. replacing the refrigerator water filter.

How do i change the sand in the hayward model sp 711

Hello, 1 You need to unscrew the drain plug and screen (if it is still there!) at the base of the filter. 2 You can reclaim most of the sand by letting the filter drain through a sieve (lots of work) or use new sand. 3 Uncouple union joints or couplers that attach to filter head. 4 Remove filter head. 5 You can try pulling some sand out of the top. However, do not damage the filter fingers in the sand. 6 Use a hose to blast the sand out the bottom drain. 7 Inspect all fingers, replace if necessary. 8 After all is cleaned out, place finger mount inside filter. Cover top of mount with a cup or similar to keep the new sand out of the finger assembly. 9 Replace drain plug and screen. 10 Fill filter halfway with water. 11 Slowly pour sand in and spread evenly. 12 Remove mount cover. 13 Reinstall head, unions and couplings. 14 Prime pump and test for leaks.
Good Luck

I replaced my Whirlpool Ultraease Undersink Filtration filter model WHEEDF and th Filter 1 of the pair of filters leaks. I have applied teflon tape to the threaded pin of the mounting unit and the leaks...

I would shut water off and relieve pressure. Remove filter houseing and inspect rubber gasket on bath sides, clean it off and clean inside of cap where gasket sets and on top of housing. Make sure there are no rough spot on either surface. If there are you can smooth them out by using fine grit sandpaper,no coarser then 120 grit. Wipe all surfaces clean and apply 5-6 wraps of teflon tape on threads on filter housing. Before you put gasket back in place you can put a light coating of petroleum jelly, vaseiline or similar,on both sides of gasket. wipe off excess. Reinstall filter and housing. tighten securely. Turn water back on and check for leaks. If it still leaks you can tighten a little more. If it still leaks I would replace gasket. Hope this helps. Thanks

I have a haywood s220t top mount filter unit, when in filter select water shoots out the drain line any help would be great.

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

You need to replace the gasket inside the valve to stop the leak and then run the pool using just the main drain until you can get more water in. The gasket kit is pretty cheap and not to hard to replace. We can try to get you the part number if you can post the valve brand and model. You should be able to call any local pool store with the brand of filter and get the part you need without any trouble.

Water filter leaks replaced filter with bypass water leaks from drain holes underneath

In the very back of the unit, there is a black rubber drain hose that is supposed to drip into evaporator tray that is mounted on top of the evaporating tray. Check that hose is not plugged and that water is draining in tray.
