I connected the blue wire to the R and the white wire to the W on the old thermostat and shoved the new Honeywell 5-1-1 Day programmable thermostat up the first guys *** that i ran into at Canadian Tire

has it always worked or did you just put it in some require 24 volts to work a wire from the thermostat to furnace c terminal

Sounds like you are loosing the low voltage when this happens either from a loose connection or a possible short. Make sure all connections are tight
