SOURCE: I have a yard machine

Your carbs main jet is blocked. Using the primer supplements the fuel input and keeps the engine from becoming fuel starved.

You need to remove the main jet and run a strand of fine wire through the jet to clear it.

I have a yard machine 742rl when gas I'd in tank and fuel line hooked up gas floods out carb and fills up Air cleaner as if there is nothing to stop and start flow of gas

Those carbs have a nitrile rubber needle and seat.
When the rubber becomes worn, they leak and need to be replaced.
This is not something the average guy can do so it's simply easier to replace the carb.
That should solve your problem.

Engine starts then backfires and sometimes leaks gas on exhaust

IS it leaking gas on the exhaust or thru the exhaust. I have seen the float in the carb stick in the down or fill position and flood thru the exhaust.

Adjusting a craftsman dlt 3000 riding mower carberator so it will not flood engine

assuming that you are working on a briggs engine? regardless of make what the problem is that the needle and seat inside the carb is not sealing off the fuel flow from the fuel pump/fuel tank or both......gravity feed fuel systems are the worst about flooding, the only fix will be a carburetor repair with needle and seat replacement

The carb on my mdf lawnmower is flooding is there adj on this type of carb it is 15 years old and has not been run untill this summer , now it does not stay running

I am unsure if this will fix your problem, but I have a MDF riding mower. Last Summer I installed a 1/4 turn shut off valve in the gas line. I keep it off until I want to use the mower, then only open it 1/8th turn. When I'm done mowing, I turn it all the way off and let the mower die so I know the line is empty from it on down. Hope that helps.

Murray riding mower 12.5 hp briggs & stratton spitting oil & gas out of carb & muffler when trying to start

Drain oil... it is full of gasoline due to a bad float pin and rubber gromet in your carb. When your float pin and gromet fail, gas just keeps flowing into your carburetor, eventually flooding your motor with gas and oil mix.
