Question about Zenith A27B41W TV

1 Answer

Zenith A27B41W I hae a zenith TV that went out. When I came into the room I knew right a way a component was fried, you know that smeel. I opened the case and right away I saw a few components that were burned. However I can not seem to find waht they are. On the PCB it has CX3231 next to the three components that were fried. I am assuming that this is the only problem. When you try to turn the TV on, it makes a buzzing noise no sound or picture. Please help! Thanks!

Re: Zenith A27B41W

I dont see this model number under PTS corp list of Zenith's modules. But a service manual is available from For a download. If you know how to work on solid state electronics, then you should have no problem with this repair. If your a handi person, a TV set is no place to be experimenting around inside of as it can seriously kill you. Find a trined tech to assist you with this. Good Luck

I have an old zenith sentry tv, and up to know has never had any problems. Afew days ago it started making a very loud noise as soon as I turned it on. It sounds like it's coming from the right

someone needs to open it but it sounds like a part arcing which was not uncommon in those sets====you would have to decide if you want to attempt to have it repaired----some shops will not repair a set that old and unless you really want it done---I would replace it.

Yes it is definitely time for a new tv. If you live near a populated area just go on your local craigslist and you can get great used televisions for quite cheap. I have seen nice 36" tv's sell for 50$ and less.
Thank you and good luck,

16 yr old 25" Zenith..1st colors went yellow/lime now TV is dead

Absolutely not worth repair. You have described a classic symptom of Zenith picture tube failure, and about 99% of the time the main board in the TV is ruined as well. You've gotten good life from the set (manufacturers figure tube life is around 7 years these days), so it's time to replace it.

Zenith A32B41W Ground

The 1000pF 2KV caps in the Zenith sets are notorious for burning up. I have seen it many, many times. The ground "plate" you describe is a dual spark gap, between the tuner ground and each side of the AC line. This part literally does nothing until a bolt of lightning hits very close to your house. Even if it shows signs of arcing, it is still good and does not need to be replaced, unless it has melted into a blob of goo and that never happens. The silver part you describe is the degaussing thermistor. It only works for the first half-second when the set is turned on, demagnetizing the picture tube. If you do not replace the thermistor, it is possible that when you move the set you will see that the colors are not quite right in the corners of the picture. If you are careful you can solder the legs back onto the thermistor, but they love to crack when heated with a soldering iron. Bring the broken one to your local TV shop and they will most certainly have many new ones in stock.

Tv blew up

sounds like the typical power supply or sweep problem in the zenith chassis. depending on how old this set is will determin if its even worth trouble shooting or taking it in to be looked at by a pro. If your not experienced with tv repair i would call a repair shop or take it in as tv sets have high voltage stored in them even after they have been unplugged for a while. If youve tinkered with tvs in the past or know someone who does zenith tvs are made for a complete chassis exchange. you can Call PTS Corp at 1 800 844 7872 and see how much an exchanged referbished chassis would cost and go from there. Good Luck
