Question about Packard Bell PC Desktops

3 Answers

Computer wont boot, installed hardware for my mobile phone it seemed to work but the next day i got a message saying computer shutting down due to hardware not installed properly. whenever i switched the computer on i get the packard bell screen saying press esc to switch screen, i have options to boot or go into bios however it will only keep trying to boot and it fails. i do not have any boot cd's, if possible is there a way to restore the computer to factory settings? or a way to get past this screen as when i press a button it keeps scanning bios, i cannot select the options. this has happened before when i install my internet companys cd and they told me it was a virus however in the end it turned out it was my new digital camera but i cant remember how i managed to fix it.

Try restoring it to an earlier setting when you know it was working.

Turn on your computer and as it is starting continuously press F8 until you here a beep this will/should start your computer in safe mode. Everything will look big on your screen, ignore that for now. Go to Start>programs>accessories>system tools>system restore and choose a date when you know that your computer was working with no problems. Once it has completed the restore it will restart your computer. If asked what mode you want to boot in press 'start windows normally'.
Hopefully this will resolve your problem.
I hope this helps

Cannot boot up windows xp or do system recovery

It's easy Megan, just chill, lol!

Look at the back of the computer next to the Windows product key, or up on the side of the computer tower, for the white Service Tag.
In the tag write down what it states next to S/N.

This is the Serial Number.

(DO NOT post on here. Only give to an authorized HP representative)

Now contact HP Support, and ask for the Restoration Disk.
(HP bought out Compaq a long time ago)

In the USA the disk is free. The shipping and handling is not.
$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.

In the US call 1-800-474-6836
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

Outside the US use HP Support Worldwide,

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

When you get the disk, turn your computer on, and put the disk in the optical drive's tray. (CD/DVD drive)
When asked choose Repair. (Non-Destructive Installation)

"windows will shut down in 30 seconds, please save your work ...

By the information provided by you, it seems like the issue may be Hardware related.

Restart the computer and press F5 and boot Computer to Safe Mode. Check if the Computer is still restarting.

If the issue still persists, try reinstalling the Operating System. However, if the issue still persists then it confirms that it is Hardware related.

If the Computer does not restart in Safe Mode, then the issue is with one of the Driver or any recent program or Virus. Try reinstalling the Drivers and uninstall any new new programs installed. Also scan the Computer for Virus.

You can also happen due to the presence of bad sectors in the Hard Drive. In the Safe mode, try performing Disk fragmentation to remove bad sectors and check if it resolves the issue.

If the issue is Hardware related, then the part that has to be replaced is Hard Drive. This is because, the Computer is booting to the OS. Hence it is completing POST and indicates all the other essential components are working.

I have a slimtype dvd a ds8a2s a ata device that I get a code 19 device cannot start message in device manager

Fist, go to devise mgr, --start button, in search area type devise,

find the devise, it should have a yellow shield, click on expand so you see the actual drive, it could be open with the shield next to it already.

It will be under cd roms. right click on it and choose uninstall, yes
uninstall the devise, now cold boot , shut down the computer and restart
it and wait until windows says found new hardware, if it doesn't throw the error when installing or after installing, go back and check it for the yellow shield.

Easiest way is to do fresh install your windows.

To do this, please boot from your Windows CD installation, then reinstall. While reinstall, do format the installation partition.

Blue screen keeps coming up

The blue screen you are referring to usual appears when there is a software/hardware conflict.

If you have recently added any hardware to your computer , try removing it and rebooting the computer..if it was software you have recently installed , try booting the computer in "Safe Mode" ( tap the F8 key when the computer is first booting) and uninstall the program.......

If that does not work , we would need to do some more troubleshooting. First we would need the exact error code from the blue screen. That will help us narrow down exactly where the issue is coming from. In the picture below notice the red box's , the code in those box's is the code we need from yours.
