How can I lubricate my porter cable 557 plate joiner?

Picked one up cheap on eBay, but it needs TLC. First impulse is to hit all the joints with WD-40, but there's probably a better solution. Note: I'm talking about lubricating the external parts, not the motor.

OK, this is a plate joiner; dunno why it got classified as a sander.

The nail striker is only partially extending from the head of the gun, misfires blanks now all the time. do I need to take the head of the gun apart and clean it? Or Is the striker shaft possibly broken ?

There is a face plate on the front of the magazine to aid in clearing jams. Sometimes this can be dislodged a bit causing the striker to not hit the brad squarely. It could be that some cleaning is in order....never ever hurts that's for sure and may help determining any bent / broken parts. Make sure the tool is well lubricated also.
Take care.

Need an instruction manual for a Model 557 Porter Cable Plate Joiner

Owners manual is here. Exploded diagram is here.

I would like to note the manufacturers site lists 557 Types 1-4. Not sure what the difference between them is, but if you need the link, it's here on page 4 of 5.

If this answer helped, please vote. Thanks!

Is the thread that holds the blade in left handed or right? I can't get the screw loose!

Hello. Use some WD-40 on the screw and let it sit for a few hours. Then be sure you have a screwdriver that fits properly. As you look at the screw head, left is loose. Turn the screw head in a counter clockwise direction. Regards, Joe

Blade change problem for Porter Cable 557 plate joiner

Putting it in the freezer for a couple of hours may loosen the screw by contraction and or you will have to use an impact wrench unless it is completely stripped , then you will have to drill it out.

Bn125 brad nailer is jammed

I've had to remove the plate over the "firing pin" a couple of times (the allen wrenches come with the gun) to release it. Mine was caused by a bent pin, that happened when I hit the hose and knocked it off the bench.

When I finally replaced it (CPO/Porter Cable), it's been fine ever since.
