Hi,

Three (3) possibilities:

  • power supply/charger - you need to check the output voltage on two (2) instances; without load (not plugged to the laptop) and when plugged. This would require that the cover of the power supply/charger be removed that measurements can be done on the wire. In some instances, the use of an alligator clip with facilitate. Extreme care as the other half of the power supply/charger is live/connected to the mains;
  • defective battery - try removing the battery and run the laptop with just the power supply/charger;
  • defective electronics - either a shorted reverse protection diode or a filter capacitor (most likely).
This of course would require a bit of familiarity with electronic components & circuitry, use of a DVM and eventually/probably a soldering iron. It also requires knowledge of safe working procedures when repairing live units. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), then perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified profession al.

Hope that this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Did you check if the power supply itself is really working properly? Try to use an multi-meter and test if there's a power output from the power supply/charger. If there isn't, you need to use a different power supply/charger.

Ok..start by trying it with no battery..it is possible that it is in deep discharge mode, which can affect the turn on
profile..

report back please, and we will go to next step..based on your report..

It is either a faulty AC socket on the laptop or a defective AC charger.

Not knowing the age of your unit I can only say that the charger or the battery may be at fault. It is highly unlikely that it is your laptop. Thanks, Dana

Battery charging issue

Check your mains adapter plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.

If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.
This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. I suggest you get a quote first.

IT sounds like you need to replace your battery. If your laptop (notebook) is working properly while plugged in with Ac power we know it is not your power supply.

I would visit the manufacturer's website for replacement batteries. One complaint I have read about over and over on these particular systems is that the battery life is very poor.
