SOURCE: I have a 25 hp -50 Filling transaxle with fluid?

Hi, I will try to help you. In the rear of the tractor on the right hand side as you stand behind the mower if you get down and look at right over the axle you will see a small hose with a plug in the end of it and that is where you put fluid in. Hope this helps. George

SOURCE: lawn mower has hydro gear transaxle reverse was

Most of the time when this happens the reverse shift linkage is too short. It is usually cause by either a bent linkage or worn linkage bushings.

The internal shifting fork can be bent inside the transmission which is rare but does occasionally happen... most of the time it is a linkage problem. Also check on the side of the transmission to make sure the shifting lever has not moved from the original position on the Yoke shaft.

Thanks for using FixYa.

SOURCE: My craftsman tractor model #

Hi
Perform a compression check. The machine is losing power because of a few reasons, carb needs adjustment, governor needs adjustment, or valves need adjustment. However if the engine is missing and losing power, the hill might be too steep. The fuel line comes out of the front of the fuel tank. When going up a hill the fuel runs to the back of the tank and the engine might be starving for fuel. If the hill is more than a 15 degree angle, the engine does not oil properly and the engine will be damaged if this happens regularly.
If the engine is running good but losing power, check the spring that pulls the idler pulley against the drive belt. You might need to move the spring to a different hole in the frame to tighten the belt more.

Let us know if you have something more to ask else please accept the solution.
Thanks for contacting fixya.com

Husqvarna gear oil

I assume you are referring the the transaxle? The replacement oil in the transaxle is as follows: This model ran either a Hydro-Gear or Tuff-Torque transaxle. If Hydro-Gear use: 20W50 synthetic. If Tuff-Torque use: 10W30 synthetic.

Tansmission oil type for model# 917.254740

Hi,

Your Craftsman is equipped with a Agri-Fab transaxle, the predecessor to the Hydro-Gear brand. The recommended oil is 10w-30. Unfortunately, the transaxle on your craftsman tractor is not serviceable. It is sealed for life. The only way to change the oil is to remove the unit from the tractor, tip it upside down and drain the oil out the reservoir plug.

No reverse no 2nd gear no overdrive but it runs in 1st gear and third

a manual transmission or transaxle,if it say, selected shift only works means the problem are the synchronizer of each shift. if mentioned, it was automatic transaxle, the problem is the cluch pack. full down then disassemble the transmission and examine each part for wears. out of spec clearances means problem.

Sorry to hear about your problem...you aren't the only one having it. Sounds like a hydrostatic problem or a pulley freewheeling on a shaft somewhere. If you bought your tractor at Sears they might could help you---the husky and are the craftsman are the same. Husky uses a little better engine is all. Hope this helps.

What is the difference in a carrier pin and a park pin, and can I fix this without taking the transaxel out?

They are two totally different pins with different jobs. The carrier pin holds the differential pinion gears sometime called the spider gears in place by pinning their shaft to the differential case. The park pin secures the park pawl to the transaxle case. Neither pin can be changed without removing the transaxle and disassembling it to get to the pins. They are both in the bottom end of the transaxle case on most automatic transaxles.
