The protection circuit is in place to try to protect the amp and speakers from damage should something go wrong, as in a shorted speaker wire, an under or over power situation from the car's battery or alternator or it may be be driving by a speaker load that is too low. You can check your owner's manual for further details or look on line.

What is the speaker load in Ohms that you are running? Or what exactly is hooked up to it? are you bridging it? The protection light will come on if the load is too much for the amp to handel. If the load (in Ohms) is less than the rated load that it can run, it will stop the output to keep the amp from self destructing. The amp will sense that the demand for power will be too high for the amps circuitry which will either make the amp get so hot that it will burn up the copper on the board or more likely burn up the power mosfetts that power the speakers. If the Ohms are within range then it will allow power to flow through the circuit until the rails that the mosfetts are bound to until they get so hot that it will go into thermal protection. So if your amp has both thermal and overload protection lights and the overload is light then the load is probably too much for the amp. if it's bridged in mono the you can only have 1 speaker setup hooked up it if it's a 2 channel amp. a 4 channel amp bridged in mono for both front and rear channels will be able to have 2 speakers rated a 4 ohms each hooked up to the amp 1 set per bridged output or channel.
Try it running in stereo with only 1 speaker per channel and see if it will produce sound. If not then you have an amp that has internal problems and will need to be serviced. Check your warranty to see if you are covered.

My amp overheated and entered protect mode and I smelled burnt wiring what do I need to do

Disconnect all speaker connections and rca cables. Leave power, ground and remote wires intact. Try turning on again. If you still have a protection light your amp is faulty. Hopefully you have warranty . Please check speakers prior to connecting another amp. .A thumbs up would be greatly appreciated if this answer is helpful to you

your amp output transistors are shorted and protection is activated to protect your amp from bigger damage.if you are confident you can try to open the amp and you should see some burn marks or burnt(blown) transistor and just simply replace him.or take it to repair shop

Husky compressor blows house breaker when turned on, unit is 5 years old. doesn't matter what outlet I plug into

Is your unloader dumping properly? This is the device that allows the head pressure to bleed off after stopping to make the restart easier. Is this device rated at 15 amps or 20? Have you tried a 20 amp circuit?

Do not - repeat - Do not change the breakers to oversome this difficulty. The breakers are in place to protect the wire in your home. Normally, a 15 amp circuit will have #14 wire. #14 wire cannot (and will not, for very long), carry 20 amps without melting or burning. 20 amp breaker protects #12 wire; 30 amps protects #10 wire.

If you continue to have this problem, you may want to have your compressor looked at by a professional electrician.

What does it mean when the red protection light illuminates

Hi the protection light comes on when there is a problem within the amps. circuitry. Generally speaking the protection light normally comes on when powered up while the amp checks all of its voltage rails so that they all lie within a specific tolerance, when all have been verified to be in spec. then the protect light goes out & the power light comes on. If the protect light stays on then a fault exists within it's circuitry. Cheers, acbva.

Dub4001 overheated now protect light comes on

look around the power input on the amp on the inside and wiggle the capacitors around to see if any of the legs burned up because sometimes the tops don't pop up instead they burn the leg off and just so that u know that amp is not stable at 2 ohms only 1 ohm

Protection light flashes on and i get nothing

Hello shwoop22,

It sounds like power is shorting out or the amp is defective. With the fuse removed, use a multimeter set to ohms and check between the power terminal to ground.

The protection light will normally come on if the amp overheats (for example when running with too low impedance), or if the speakers are shorted.

Hope this helps.

I have an older red sony xplod 500w 4ch amp. the power/protection light is glowing red. what does that mean and how do i fix it? I have no sound.

The protection light comes on if the amp overheats or if the speaker outputs are shorted.

Turn everything off and check all of your speaker wires for shorts. When you locate and repair the short, the protection light should go out and your amp will work normally again.

Hope this helps!

Mac-505 amp

Disconnect all speaker wires and signal cables from the amp. If it powers up normally (no protect light), the wiring needs to be checked. If it still goes into protect, the amp likely has blown output transistors.
