Using a universal pleating foot, starts out fine then I break a needle, 5 so far. It hist the pressure plate. Using a straight stitch, needle is centered. Bobbin is treaded correctly. Needle is straight at...

Sounds like the needle is hitting the moving part of the pleater once you get going, getting bent then striking the needle plate too.

Its not going to do the machine any good if you keep striking it with the needle as you'll end up putting the timing out.

As the pleater is a generic type it is probably best to stop trying to use it on your machine.

Needle hitting the metal spool housing underneath, mis-timing?

the timing has, gone there is a screw holding the spool carrage on to the shaft lossen this a little so that it still grips but will turn, the neddle should pass the point on the spool case just after the eye comes level with the spool point and hence pick up the lower cotton and just miss the spool case, after re timing turn over by hand to ensure nothing is hitting anything else.

Neddle problem

Sounds like the needle is hitting the bobbin casing. Take it out and re-seat it. Check your manual.

does the hook assembly move when you turn the handwheel? If no, then your hook drive gears are shot.

Kenmore sewing machine 385.1960180, problem with needle centering

That sounds like it's definitely an internal adjustment. The machine will need to be opened up and the left/right adjustment taken care of. Is this machine one that you can open the top easily, or is it the type that has the front and rear shell?

Will not zigzaz neddle hits the foot plus the plate if u put it on #6 like it shows just bought the machine got it 4/21/08 please help barb1802@hughes.net

If the machine is new from a reputable dealer, they should fix it for free under warrantee.

It sounds like the position of the needle arm swing needs adjusting......my guess is that is off centre and while one side hits the needle plate, the other does not....this is not a serious or difficult problem to fix.

Quick check is to set straight stitch and look at the "centredness" of the needle relative to the foot and presser bar, it will probably look slightly to one side....it may only be a mm or two, but this can be enough.

A quick call to the dealer to explain and you should be sorted. I would not recommend attempting any home remedy on a machine that is in warrantee as it will void the agreement and if something serious goes wrong in the first 12 mths, you will have no recourse.
