What kind of card? Wireless? If so, the computer's IP address must be configured to the same range as the router, and the router must be configured to accept incoming connections from your computer.

For OS Vista or Win 7
Navigate to your wireless network card properties and make sure it is enabled;
Start -> control panel -> network and internet (or network and sharing) -> network options -> manage network connections
then select your wireless NIC icon and right click on it, then make sure it is enabled.

Be sure that your wireless NIC(adapter) switch did not get turned off i.e. on certain laptop/notebook models

Have you run the Dell Diagnostics test? reboot the computer and hit the F12 key, scroll down to the diagnostic option and run the test, it will check hardware and memory etc.

Network connection problem

you need the drivers for the nic. you can get them from support.dell.com by typing in the service tag. obviously, you'll need a computer with a working network connection. copy them over on cd or usb drive to the laptop.

NIC hardware failure

Maybe your problem is software related. Maybe a virus changed some settings. I would check all the internet settings and the network card settings. I've seen this happen before. In windows xp click Start/Control Panel/Network Connections. Then right click on your local area connection and Click Properties. Slide the bar down to the TCPIP protocol and highlight it, then click Properties. Make sure you are obtaining the IP Address and DSN Server address automatically. Click the Advanced button and make sure DHCP is enabled.

Internal Wireless card will not activate

Most likely you need to install the driver for the NIC card. Go to Device Manger under System Properties and see if the Wireless NIC is showing a driver error. If so right click, select Update Driver and navigate the the file on the CD. Once the driver is installed if should function normally.

Integrated 10/100 nic card problems

The card has developed a loose connector, it's just worn, it happens and is fairly common with these, and there nothing you can do about it, other than replace the card, and yes you can replace it with a 10/100 wireless/combo. Just remember to uninstall the drivers for the old card prior to installing the new card in order to keep from having a conflict. That is, if there are drivers, a majority of these cards are plug and play. With the wireless/combo there will be drivers.

Slow connection w/ FiOS

You may not be interpreting the LED correctly. The Link LED goes on to indicate a physical connection (if the Link LED is out, the cable is damaged or disconnected), but the 10/100 LED only illuminates when there’s a 100Mbps connection. The LED will remain off when the connection is only 10Mbps. Here’s how to quickly determine the speed of your connection. If the 10/100LED is off, there’s a slow connection. If the LED is on, there’s a fast connection.

A fast (100Mbps) network connection requires that both ends of the connection support 100Mbps communication. So, if the 10/100 LED on your hub is dark, chances are that your PC’s network adapter (or NIC [network interface card]) is only operating in the 10Mbps mode. Check the NIC in your Device Manager Network Adapter entry and look for any 10/100 designation. An older 10Mbps NIC may need to be upgraded for 100Mbps operation. If it’s a 10/100 NIC, refer to the PC’s documentation and check the NIC settings to make sure it’s not locked in the 10Mbps mode. Set the NIC to a mixed or 10/100 mode so that it can adapt automatically to establish the best possible connection.
