What is a USB receiver?

If your computer is a laptop, most of (all) laptops comes with a built-in wireless adapter. And if it is working, you don't need one.

If you have a desktop (a tower casing, monitor, keyboard and mouse) setup, mostly they don't have built in wireless receiver. But if your desktop is custom built like mine, I have installed a wireless card in my desktop. But not really recommended. Since it sits in the desktop tower casing and if you need to get more signal and have to move around, you get furious because it is not mobile.
USB receiver or adapter can be extended via a USB extension cable (3 meter, 7 meter, 10 meter) and put it where the signal strength is high or remove it and use it on any other computer (laptop or desktop) with a USB port.
So, if your computer is not equipped with a wireless adapter/card built in and need to have wireless access, you need to buy a usb wireless adapter. These days they are as cheap as 8$ to 50$.

Hope this helps.

My mouse responds erratically, why?

if it is a ball track mouse, the re is lint inside and it needs to be taken apart and cleaned. If it is a wireless mouse, there is either a solid object where it looses the signal for a bit every once in a while, or the batteries are low. Your processor could be too busy with trojans or keyloggers... just in case get spynomore free to try off the internet and run a smart scan and see what it finds.

Wireless mouse freezes the screen goes white it is a dell monitor i have had for about 3/4 years and a cheap wireless keyboard and mouse which i have had for about 2and a half years just started today...

Are the batteries fresh in the keyboard and mouse? Do you have USB keyboard and mouse to try (to eliminate possibility of wireless keyboard / mouse failure) If you do have alternate (USB or PS/2) keyboard and mouse, make sure and unplug the USB receiver for wireless set before testing. Let me know results.

THE WINOWS STARTUP SHOWS ON SCREEN ON/OFF BUTTON IS BLUE

Is your keyboard also wireless? Check batteries on all wireless devices. If batteries are fine, restart your computer (hold down your power button until your computer shuts down unless you have a reset button) and then try unplugging and plugging back in your wireless receiver, then hit your connect buttons starting with your keyboard followed by your mouse.

The USB/wireless mouse does not work on my Dell Inspiron 1525

make sure there are no power cables close to the mouse or receiver, I have seen this cause problems many times.

Also try pressing the connect button on the receiver then keep pressing the connect button on the mouse until the receiver light stops flashing
