Question about Intel 845GE Motherboard
I reinstalled Windows Xp Sp2 on an eMachines T2862 Chipset Intel 845gv. I reinstalled all of the drivers (sound worked too). Then the PC got restarted (I'm told that's all) and now I've no sound. I had a Realtek AC97 device showing up in device manager before and no longer have that. I have downloaded the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility and have had no change. I have also downloaded Realtek drivers and got nothing (so I deleted them). I'll try whatever links you can provide.
Here's some info on the chipset:
It's a celeron D processor (I don't think that matters though). I'm currently getting another driver from Intel and I'll let you know how that works out.
"Then the PC got restarted (I'm told that's all)"
???? * grin*
Check the most obvious first. Check the audio IN jack on the back, check the power chord is plugged IN, (and on the back of the speakers too) check the master volume , then check the sound settings(one formulti media and sound and one for realtek something~) in the control panel.
Seems to me the most likely is that someone was messing with your stereo settings (loose term *s*)
If this proves fruitless...force windows to update the drivers and lead windows BY THE NOSE to the exact drivers YOU choose. (whether it likes them or not)
I am sure that these procedures will help you fixthe problem but if by some mere chance it doesnt.
Uninstall the realtek software, and remove the sound card from the control panel system list. Reboot. DO NOT let windows load the drivers ON BOOT ( hit escape repeatedly if it tries to)
and then once you are completely UP. Install it again, forcing it to take the drivers that you know are right.
reboot for good measure, especially since you have had to make so many changes.*s*
Thank you and Good luck *s*
