Question about D-Link DIR-615 Router

Open Question

Cannnot connect to dlink. any ideas?

OK, so here is the deal: about 6 months ago I purchased a brand new laptop and connected it to my DLink router that has been working on our PC for about 3 years now. I also have 2 Playstations and 2 other laptops connected to the D Link (all of which are working fine and NEVER have any problems whatsoever). About 3 weeks ago, I turned my laptop on and tried going online, but much to my surprise, it couldnt connect. Its supposed to automatically connect, but this time it didnt. I figured I would manually connect it. I opened up the window that displays all the routers that the laptop is picking up and i saw my D Link so I try to connect. It attempts, then says "connected" and the after 3 seconds or so, it says "Limited Access". I thought it was a problem with the internet so I checked the other laptops in the house and the Playstation and they are all working fine. I figured it was my laptop so I shut it off and restarted it but it did not work. Next, I tried unplugging the router and waited for 2 minutes or so and plugged it back in. Yay! It worked! I solved the problem! I began surfing the internet for a couple hours when, BAM! It suddenly went out again. I figured I would unplug the router once again to see if it was just some kind of glitch and would work fine this time. I unplug it and repeat the process over again. after 2 hours, it goes out. Everything else in this house seems to be working just fine on the router with no problems whatsoever, except mine. I have not messed with any of the configurations because I have not idea where to even begin so I know it cant be with the configurations. My laptop is new with windows 7, I'm using xfinity as a provider. Side note- I did a test and when I cant connect to the internet with my laptop it fails a "PING" test (no idea what that is), but when I unplug and plug up the router and the internet is fine on the laptop, it will pass the "PING" test. I'm completely clueless about all this, I really hope someone can help. If you have any questions, any at all that might help you diagnose the problem, please ask and I'll try to answer as quickly as possible, I really need this problem fixed. Its horrible having to reset the router every 2 to 4 hours. Recap: New laptop with windows 7, all other laptops and PS3's work just fine even when MY laptop isnt, fails "PING" test when it cant connect to internet, passes "PING" test when it can connect to internet, unplugging the router and plugging it back in will give me internet for a few hours, when laptop cant connect it says "LIMITED ACCESS". any ideas? Thanks to all who help. P.S. Like I have mentioned before, I'm a complete newb and dont really understand too much of the lingo, please break it down barney style for me. Thanks again.

SOURCE: dlink problem

If those light are all lit up and WLAN is OFF there's a big possibility that the device is getting bad, first thing to do here is to reset it , to reset the unit Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds using a pen for about 30 seconds while the power is ON, then after that release the reset button and unplug the power of the router for 10 seconds and hopefully after that the lights should be back to normal but if not you may need to contact Dlink or get a new router instead...

SOURCE: Not able to configure and connect to internet using router

Manually configure the setting in your LAN, this could help.

Connect a LAN cable between LAN1 of your router then to the LAN port of your computer. Power the router.

Goto Lan settings, highlight TCP/IP, then click properties.

In your lan settings manually input IP address 192.168.0.52, Subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.0.1

You can input also the DNS number of your IP.

Then open web browser type in the address bar 192.168.0.1. You should go straight thru router utility setup security log in.

This can also be set wirelessly. Leave comments if I miss something.

Cannot connect to DLink DIR-655

The part below is all you need to look at, the rest is Ethernet which is your wired connection, ethernet card.

Here is what are causing your problems from what you gave me and basically your computer is not communicating with the router:

1)I don't see any IP address for your laptop so you can't get on the internet if you don't have an IP address, also, I don't see any gateway address. The gateway address is your router address, and that address is given to the router automatically from your Internet Service Provider.

So if your computer cannot see the gateway address then the gateway address (router) cannot give you an IP address to get on the Internet.
Your Wireless card looks ok, that is the physical address and if you were able to do the loopback then its working.

So on your laptop I would begin from the beginning. Go into network connections and delete the DLink connection if it is there. Then Start>control panel>Network connections>click wireless network connection>click change settings of the connection on the left window>click wireless network tab>make sure checkmark"use windows to configure my wireless network settings>click add a new network>TYPE IN THE SSID FOR THE NETWORK>ENTER WEP/WPA KEY>CLICK OK, then close and you should be connected.

You said other computers are able to access the internet thru the DLINK so it all points to your laptop not being configured correctly.

HOWEVER :)...I see alot of "Media disconnected in your list. Make sure all of the lights are working on the front of the router, if not check the cabling or call the ISP sometimes the problem is on their end. Hope this helps, keep me updated.

No need to install the dlink on the imac. All you need to do is connect the modem first the dlink. (Modem connected to Internet or WAN port of the dlink). Now if they are connected, your imac should be plugged in to port 1 of dlink, and your PC to port 2. That should do it.

Dlink di-524 connect to RV042

Hi.

You need to cascade the Dlink wireless router to your RV042.

Suppose your RV042 has a default IP Address of 192.168.1.1, and the DLINK IP uses 192.168.0.1. Your Physical connection is from the regular port of the RV042 going to the WAN/Internet Port of the DLink wireless router.

Once you do that, your Dlink router should automatically obtain an IP from the main router. If it did, configure your wireless settings and you should be able to connect via wireless.

This is just one way to cascade your router to another router.

Wireless router

Yes, you can use wireless router with the modem. I guess the actiontech DSl router that you have is also Wireless one. If so, you can use just the DSL router for wireless connection. If you really want to use Dlink router with it, Connect the ( WAN port ) of the Dlink router to the ( LAN Port ) of the Action tech modem [ modem(LAN)-->Dlink(WAN) ]. Once you do this connection, better to do power cycle ( unplug the pwr to the dlink first, then, disconnect the pwr to action tech - wait 1min and plug the pwr to modem, wait for DSL light to be solid , then put the pwr back to dlink ). Make sure DSL light on the modem solid, internet light & WLAN light on the link glowing.
- Make Hardwire connection between the computer to Dlink and check the ip address on the computer whether it acquires the ip address from Dlink and then check the internet connection on the computer, it has to work. if computer not getting ip from dlink, try restarting computer.
- If hardwire connection on the dlink works fine and check the wireless connection.

For wireless configuration or assistance you may check this link:

please feel free to ask, if you have any more assistance.
