So after finding out that the firmware doesn't have an update, searching the web and asking tech support at my ISP, i still didn't know what the problem was.So i called Telkom (our only telecomunications provider) waited on the line for nearly 45min to hear that they also didn't know. I finally got put through to the people than install the ADSL and he just said. "I'll just activate the line for you ,ok?" And i'm thinking WTF!!!!! He explained that although there was a connection, and i recieved an IP and all that, the datatransfer was not activated. He pressed one button!!! Why my ISP couldn't tell me that i don't know. 5min later everything is working fine.

SOURCE: Wireless connection to internet
I just got it all working [new notebook running Vista], connecting to the net via the telkom 5102G - with a PC running XP connecting via LAN.
The 5102G comes ready configured with a network key / code [stuck on the back] so use that to connect to the router - once you've connected it'll come up with limited connectivity.
I then ran the firmware upgrade from http://www.telkomphones.co.za/5102g.htm
To do this, download and unpack the thing. In your browser, go to 10.0.0.2 [for the router config] and click on firmware and follow the instructions.
Once this is done - disconnect and reconnect the vista laptop connection. Open your browser and simply click on tools and uncheck the tickbox alongside "work offline".
I know that sounds ridiculous but that's exactly what I did and I'm surfing fine.
Now... just need to share files and printer and we're 100%.
Hope that helps.

an Access point is to add Wireless to a LAN. (which is ok if you have a Router connected to your LAN).
if you have no Router, and only have an ADSL/Cable modem connected to a PC then you should have got a Router +ADSL/Cable modem instead of an Access point. you can get routers like this which also have wireless, so you get all the functionality in 1 box
Here is a Wireless router, with hub and ADSL +Cable Support
