SHY66C05UC/14 turns on but stops after 10-15 seconds, yet wash cycle button and time are still on. Replaced water flow part but no change. Suggestions?

Many Bosch dishwashers have a design flaw...the door will not fully close and pops out after you start it. When this happens the D/W will not run. You can go to the Bosch website to order the part to fix this and no they will not reimburse you nor acknowledge your email to customer service.

We just moved into a house with a Bosch SHY66C05UC dishwasher and it emits the foulest smell whenever we open the door. We only do the dishes every 3 days. Can anyone suggest a solution? By the way, the...

You probably have "gunk" around the door seal and on the inside bottom of the door. Using an old toothbrush or a soft cloth and some white vinegar, rub around the door gasket and the edge of the door. You'll probably be amazed at the residue that you remove. You may have to wipe and wash several times to get all the accumulation off.
The reason this debris accumulates is that the water and soil seep under the seal but are not rinsed away. Because we can't see the soil, it hardens and the next time the machine is run, more of the soil is deposited. Eventually, the soil begins to spoil and an unpleasant odor develops. Try the door cleaning first and then run a cycle when the dishwasher is empty, using about 1/4 cup of white vinegar. This should be all you need to do.
I hope this helps with your "stinky" problem. If it does, please let Fixya know by rating my solution!
Good luck

We have a Bosch shy66c05uc. The dishes are coming out with a white chalky film. Does this model have a place for rinse aid? Can you tell me where, I don't have the manual and don't see a logical place...

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

For start, yes your dishwasher has a rinse aid/jet dry dispenser, it is part of the detergent dispenser as shown in this image...provided the model is indeed shy66c05uc, i.e.
20f1455.jpg The rinse aid is dispensed or added under the cover next to the detergent drawer, if you lift up the cover you`ll see a round dial with numbers ( you may need to look closely ) simply pour the rinse aid in this section until full. As for the cleaning/white film issue, that can be attributed to several factors. Some of which are too much detergent, not enough water, or not heating the detergent/water to a acceptable temperature to dissolve or rinse properly.

**B/S/H/ also issued a recall on certain models between 1999 - 2006 depending on the model & serial number, but it doesn`t apply to yours. The issue was directly related to the heating circuit (specifically the heat relay on the control) Here`s the link if you want to see for yourself **

The other possibility I kind of alluded to is heating/the control, NTC or flow switch.

My first suggestion would be calling in an authorized bosch service tech. if that is an option for you and your budget however, If you feel capable of checking this on your own, there`s a way to visually inspect the control yourself.

For a visual inspection it will require you to remove the control from the unit and then remove the control from it`s plastic housing and look for a burnt solder contact on the printed circuit board.

If it is a heating issue, The culprit will 99% of the times be one of the pins from the heater relay,

**Your control WILL differ in appearance, however the issue, the service and all the same info applies...except the part number. Yours will be # 219640**

26052ec.jpg

**Flip this over and inspect the solder joints, it will be obvious when you see it...the cover for your models control comes apart in a similar manner**

This is where and what to look for, except I`ve re-soldered this one already...

face585.jpg

...hence the unit sit`s and takes longer & longer to finish because it can`t heat to advance or unless the 2 buttons for "cancel" are pressed, other-times it will eventually stop with cloudy dishes or shoe "1" in the display.

The alternative to visually inspection ( though I strongly recommend the visual inspection ) you can also run the unit through a regular or econo cycle ...any cycle with the exception of rinse & hold, and with the door panel removed place an ammeter on the gray/black wire it should draw 11 amps during the wash cycle...after it fills and the flow switch indicates it has adequate water to engage the heater.

i.e.

f57273b.jpg
**My Opinion - if you or someone you know is proficient at soldering, a lot of times it can be remedied by simply repairing the solder...but it has to be done well...or it will not last, although Bosch recommend`s replacing the control ( # 219640 @ approx. $150 - $250USD...$175.99 at "searspartsdirect.com" ) and I don`t pretend to speak on their behalf nor do I profess to know better. This is just my experience (it work`s) and my opinion (why buy new if one can repair ?)**

**Please disconnect the power or turn off the breaker before attempting any service to the dishwasher.**

If you do not feel comfortable attempting this service, call a local pro, preferably one familiar with Bosch/Thermador/Gaggenau/Siemens, to service your machine.

Hope this answer`s your question, let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank`s for visiting "FixYa" for your repair inquiries. Please take a moment and rate this solution to it's helpfulness.

Good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

Dishes and glasses being etched; looking dirty; embarrassing

First of all, if you're talking about actual glass as opposed to crystal, glass can etch easily. Why? Because like crystal, there are variations in its quality. Cheap glass will etch faster with the use of an electric dishwasher compared to higher quality glass.

Did you know that the main constituent in most automatic electric dishwasher detergents is sodium hydroxide (lye) and chlorine bleach (another caustic acid)

A Bosch dishwasher has very long wash cycles, further exposing your dishes to the possibility of etching damage. You should stop using the sani-rinse cycle if there is such an option and switch to a gel format detergent as opposed to a powder. Use a rinse agent such as Jet-Dry. This should solve your etching problem.
