Question about Seagate FreeAgent Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My PC or Laptop (Win7) is not recognizing my GoFlex_Home 2T external drive

I purchased a new Seagate FreeAgent 2TB GoFlex Desktop USB 3.0 USB 2.0 Hard Drive today and I was on with support for a very long time. They thought it might be the cable, so I took it back to the store and brought home another unit. It made no difference, still does not reconinize the exteral hard drive.

SOURCE: can you use a Seagate 500GB FreeAgent GoFlex

Yes, but because it's a hard disk and has low transfer speeds it will actually slow down the pc instead of making it work faster. Ready boost is designed to be used only with memory sticks of the latest generation.

SOURCE: I have dropped a Seagate

hello vyseman15,
hard disc drives need to be handled carefully, they can only handle a limited rough usage. especially dropping while it is working is very dangerous, in most cases the head will "scratch" (damage) the discs surface which make the device afterwards useless.
sorry to say there is nearly no chance to make it work again. there are some companies who can rescue some of the data on it, but they are expensive anyway.
regards

Can you see it under "Device Manager" or "Disk Management"?
To get to device manager and disk management click "Start"-> Type in "management" in the little white bar at the bottom and click "Computer Management".

My PC (Win7) is not recognizing my GoFlex_Home 2T external drive. It did when I installed it but not now. Seagate Support has been of no help.

if it was recognised but not anymore, i would think the usb-controller board on the external disk is broken. see if you can find it in the bottom list of the disk manager by choosing "run..." from the start menu, in which you type "diskmgmt.msc" and hit enter. if the disk is not listed there, it is broken. if it is listed, you can manage it with the options you get when you right-click the drive in the list.

I have the exact same drive. If off-the-shelf cables are not working (which is odd) I would suggest buying a USB 3.0 extender. This will extend it about 3 feet. You can purchase them for <$5 online! Let me know if this helped out any.

I am looking for a manual for FreeAgent GoFlex Desk USB 3.0. I have no idea how it works. It doesn't need fixing, I need to know how to do various tasks.

Here's a link for all the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex external hard drives support page: http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=goflex-support&vgnextoid=884623db95b07210VgnVCM1000001a48090aRCRD

I would suggest finding the quick start guide for your external hard drive and reading that first.

How do I work on my data on the Seagate FreeAgent 2TB GoFlex Desktop USB 2.0 Hard Drive as my computer memory is at capacity. I want to be able to use my external hard drive as an extension of my computer...

Assuming you are using a Windows operating system, you can just plug it into your computer's USB ports, and the computer will recognise it as another hard drive.

Instructions:
Double-click on 'My Computer' and take note of what drive letters are there (C:, D:, etc.) before you plug in the Seagate Freeagent.
Plug in the Seagate Freeagent. You'll see the new drive, likely E: or F: (depending on what is already there before you plugged in the Seagate Freeagent)
Double-click on the new drive, and it'll open up and you'll see the files stored on that drive. You can drag and drop files and save to this drive like any other folder on your computer.

How do i find the files that have been saved on my seagate freeagant goflex desk 2TB drive

Hi there babyface,

You just have to plugin your Seagate FreeAgent to your computer's usb port using the usb cable. Once plugged in power the seagate on and your computer should pop up a notification, usually in the lower right corner of your computer screen, saying that it has detected a new USB device. Next, right click your Windows Start button and choose Explore to Open Windows Explorer. Once the window opens, look for the drive letter associated with your Seagate FreeAgent under "My Computer" or "Computer" located on the left pane. Click for that drive to show the contents on the right side of the window. Thats it!

If you need further assistance, please let me know. Thank you for using FixYa.
