Remove the motor base from the tank frame so you can get at the screws on the back of the motor housing. Remove the infeed line running from the pump to the tank and the motor power line at the pressure switch if there isn't enough slack to swing the motor out. Remove the motor housing. Touch a screwdriver to both posts on the capacitor to make sure it's discharged. Remove the two wires on top of the capicitor and take the bolt off the back to remove it from the motor housing. Reverse everything putting it back together.

Hello there,

Ballast can be resistor , capacitor, Inductor or all the older ones, there was a 'starter' (neon bulb inside)

Go here for explanation.

Normally you would just change the whole thing.

Dayton 1HLA3A greenhouse fan blades do not turn unless I spin them to get started. Is this a capacitor issue?

fan starter in side there is a starter black box on wiring with c66 something on it change that. there are lots of these with the same number but you need the same uF number 1-4uf on most can go higher. get the same uf as the one in the unit.

I Have a model397.19501 bench grinder; when I turn the switch on all it does is hum. what can I doo to get it working again.

Sounds like the starter capacitor is bad. If you try to turn the wheels while it's hummingand it slowly picks up speed, that will confirm it. Note some motors have a weight/contact point set up that will energize a seperate starter coil. I'm assuming you have the capacitor. If the capacitor is bad don't change it out for one with a lesser uF value. More is OK, less is not.

Not getting cold, freezer not freezing

you will need to replace the tsd-starter module on the compressor body side along with the run capacitor, there is a spring clip that secures it to the compressor, remove this clip, unplug the starter and run capacitor and plug in the new tsd-starter and capacitor and secure with the clip

Fan will not start on it's own

The fan only has one capacitor. The other two are for the compressor, one is a start capacitor and the other a run capacitor. A schematic should be on your fan motor telling you witch two wires run to the start capacitor for the fan motor.

Frige not cooling com not kicking on

Sounds like the compressor has gone out. Unless you can find a slightly more powerful starter capacitor that will be compatable. But then again, how long will that last you? My thought is, either have the compressor replaced or buy a new refrigerator. I am sorry for the bad news.

Buzzing sound and not cooling

it looks like you have a bad compressor. try replacing the ptc starter and the run capacitor, if it did not change anything, then you have a bad compressort that needs to be replaced. if those parts are expensive, test the capacitor by using an analog meter, test the terminal using the X100 resistance. the meter needle should indicate continuity and slowly goes back to infinity. then reverse the terminals to the test prods and it should happen again. then test the resistance of the ptc starter, it should have a reading between 20 ohms and 100 ohms. and there whould be no rattling sound inside the ptc starter. hope i was able to help...
