SOURCE: Trouble with Maytag Legacy gas Dryer

Please provide the model number and I will see if I can figure something out.
It sounds like you have covered the common problems. Usually a motor is the cause for this problem, it gets hot and shuts down until it cools off. I have had some problems with the auto dry controls on the Maytags also.
Are you equiped to do some voltage checks if we need too? This would help in knowing where you have power when it quits.
Thanks/Mike

SOURCE: Maytag dryer MDE7400

depending on model, (mechanical timer or electronic timer)

Mechanical dryer timer has a tiny motor to advance it
many times service techs forget to plug in the timer drive motor when they replace the timer switch that it is screwed to
or they replace the switch when the switch is ok, but the motor is bad
Not a solution just something to check
the timer drive motor is a 2inch diameter press formed sheet metal device 1/2 inch thick on the rear of the timer switch
if there are wires hanging off, that is the solution
if there is no hum from the timer motor when you push the start button, replace the timer drive motor

electronic, not had one break yet

Smell gas inside maytag dryer when i open door . not commimg from piping leading to dryer

Your exhaust to the outside of the house is restricted some where between dryer and wall to the outside. If the vent is restricted then it cannot exhaust the fumes, heat and moisture to the outside of your home like iit needs to do.

I have a Maytag dryer (Gas) Model # MDG8506AWW. I changed the ignitor and also the coils on the gas valve, same problem. Ignitor turns on, heats up, gas valve opens burner turns on and then shuts off...

Hello,

Is their rumbling noise at start up (or was thier in the past) if so the blower wheel itn't turning and its causing the flame to sufficate due to very poor or no air flow , to check if blower wheel is problem remove vent from back of dryer and check for air that should be equal to if not better than that of a box fan you would use in your living room,if good air flow at back of dryer check for blocked or restricted vent,Again very poor air flow will sufficate the flame very quickly

If this helps please give me 4 thumbs up :)

Too long for clothes to dry.

Hi,
If you have plenty of heat and no drying you are not getting enough airflow. Try running if both with and without the vent hose connected to see if you have a blockage in the vent system. If not there the you may have a blockage inside the dryer itself. See how much air is coming out the vent it should be pretty forceful. Try vacuuming out everything you can get to from the front and back.
Let me know if I can help you further.

The dryer puts off a chemical smell on the clothes-gas dryer

If it smells like gas on your clothes, your exhaust vent is probably being restricted, causing the exhaust to back up into the dryer cavity. Remove exhaust hose, make sure it is clear all the way to where it exits your home.( sometimes birds build nests in the outlet vent) Look into vent where hose attatches to dryer, and make sure it is clear also. If you smell gas when moving the dryer, there should be a shutoff valve near the wall, close it. DO NOT THE DRYER ! ! Call someone qualified to make the repair.

The dryer ignites but the gas valve does'nt light

Check that the gas sensor is clear or any lint/dust/crud, etc. as that could be preventing the gas valve from opening up and allowing ignition. Typically all gas dryers have a safety feature that won't allow operation if the exhaust vent pipe has excessive lint and dust in it, as that is a fire hazard.

Look in your owner's manual to see the procedures for accessing the vent exhaust and follow your specific instructions. Usally there is an access panel/door at the bottom front of the dryer that will allow you to get inside the vent, etc. Inside that is a surface mounted sensor that does a couple of things; checks for proper air (venting) flow; no excessive dust/lint buildup; and that the ignitor coil has been "lit", etc.

If any of these doesn't occur, the gas valve will not open. Follow the monthly cleaning procedure/check to make certain that the dryer is safe to use and operate.

If all the above are OK, then it is likely that the sensor has failed and needs to be replaced. You can look at the searspartsdirect.com to find your particular model using their parts diagrams and illustrations of your dryer, etc.

Glad to assist!
