How to connect microphone

Make sure microphone is compatible with your computer.

First find the port for audio jack on your computer. In case of PC, it is located either on the front or back side of the CPU. In case of laptop, check all the sides of laptop.

Once you find the suitable port, try inserting your microphone's connector into that port. If your microphone have 2 connectors, that is headphone and microphone combo, you'll have to find such port on your computer. If you cannot find suitable port, I am sorry, you won't be able to connect microphone.

Lastly, you need is drivers which will be automatically installed if your computer detects your microphone. Now your microphone is ready to use.

Hope this helps.

I can't find where my microphone goes

Is your computer a laptop or a desktop? How old is it? Which make/model of computer do you have?

For an older desktop, the microphone input will be on the back of the computer. There are usually three 3.5 mm jacks for audio connections. The pink connector is for the microphone. The black connector is for Line In and the green is line out (speakers). Often they are towards the far side of the motherboard connections from any PS2 (keyboard and mouse) ports. Otherwise, they will line up with one of the card slots.

Newer desktop computers often have additional audio ports for surround sound. However, the pink jack for the microphone is standard. If the computer has front audio ports, you may find that the same color labels the jacks. Otherwise look closely at the icons next to the ports. These will be in addition to the back audio ports.

Laptops can have the audio ports on the front, back or side depending on the model. There will be a small icon with a stand microphone indicated for the microphone port.

If you have one of the newer USB microphones, plug it into an available USB port.

If the computer has no working audio ports, either get a USB microphone or add a sound card.

I hope this helps. If you add a comment with your computer's brand and model number, I'll try to provide the exact audio port details. (There are some computer motherboards that do not have on-board audio and you will need a sound card.)

(on Windows computers, you may have to change the default audio input. Click Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Manage Audio Devices. (for Windows 7) For other versions of Windows, you may find slightly different titles in the Control Panel.)

My acer aspire 4720z mic is not working but the output audio is ok

Try plugging in an external microphone. If it works, then your internal microphone has failed. If the external microphone also doesn't work, then try reloading the Realtek Audio Driver. There is also the possibility if you have previously used an external microphone, that the jack's connections have become unreliable such that the system thinks that an external microphone is still connected after it has been unplugged. With this situation, plugging an external microphone back in will obviously work.

How to connect mike in computer

  • Look for the sound card on the back of the computer. This will have a 15-pin connector and several colored jacks.

  • Locate the microphone jack. Although some manufacturers will stray from the norm, the microphone jack is typically colored red or pink and/or will probably have a picture of a microphone.

  • Connect the microphone into the jack.

  • Click "Start," then click "Control Panel," then click "Hardware and Sound," then click "Manage Audio Devices" under the "Sound" category. This opens the "Sound" window.

  • Click the "Recording" tab. Here you will see a picture of a microphone. To the right of the picture should be a sound bar.

  • Test the microphone by speaking into it. If the sound bar lights up, then the microphone is plugged in correctly and ready to use. If the sound bar remains gray, then there is no signal. Try another jack on your sound card and repeat the steps to test your microphone. If you still can't get the microphone to work review your computer documentation or contact the manufacturer's technical support.

To connect a professional microphone to a computer, you will need to use a USB adapter such as the Shure X2u. The mic will not work well when connected to the 1/8" mic input on the computer.

    How to install to computer?

Check the Device Manager to see if it is discovered and connected with drivers installed. Otherwise, install the disk that came with the microphone to install the drivers. If it didn't come with the disk, reboot your computer with the microphone connected to the computer - upon boot, the computer should prompt and let you know a new device has been found and will install the drivers automatically.

Internal microphone not working how do i fix this?

    Dear twicher1921,
Try to connect the external microphone first, then go to
    start menu>all program>accessories>entertainment>sound recorder.
Try to record your voice then play it! if succeed, it means that your computer and microphone work properly.
    Or try this:
    start menu>run> then key in

    dxdiag

then click OK, you should guide to dx diagnosis dialogue, choose no to run without any internet connection. When the dxdiag box appear,
try to run direct speech diagnosis. It should be work with external microphone. After you completed the direct speech test, close the dxdiag box. restart your computer,
Run the dxdiag one more time with your internal microphone, if it doesn't work, there must be a problem with your internal microphone (broken).

    One last test,
try to right click on my computer, then choose 'properties' on the context menu. When the my computer box appear, choose the hardware-tab, then click on 'device manager'. Then click on 'COMPUTER' and then click 'SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES'. If the icon for microphone appear to be in YELLOW Question mark, you have to run the update driver from context menu when you right click on the question mark. then find the driver from internet or from the recovery CD that come with your computer for best driver there is.

    GoodLuck!

    Best regards,
