if you right click my computer and go to properties it should say the type of computer it is, i can't find anything with the information provided. actually hit the windows key and the r key at the same time or search for run in start menu and when you get the run dialog box type msinfo32. it should tell you the model number under system model

I have never seen a desk top that has a "button" for wifi. If it has a wireless wifi adapter or card installed you would go to the lower right of your desktop where you would see a wifi ICON probably next to your volumn control. Clk on that and the wifi available should show there. The icon would look like a progressively smaller to larger group of 5 vertical bars. Ask anyone with a laptop theo help you.

I have no idea at all what you have there;.

then be more accurate as to what is there.

its a desktop and as all desktops vast things can be fitted here.
NIC card PCI, LAN
Wifi card PCI, WLAN
Nic USB dongle
Wifi USB dongle.

we cant see what you have there, a photo works or words.

my guess is wifi dead, as most post here, due to complexity of wifi.

YES--you can pretty much add WIFI to anything--you can buy an internal wifi pci card or external usb type (EBAY has the best deals)

If this was helpful, please indicate so, if not -comment back so we can dig further to resolve this.

Atheros AR5BXB63 is gone from Device Manager

Sounds like your hardware WIFI card has failed inside the laptop. The easiest thing to do would be to get an external PCMCIA or USB WIFI card. Many of them are available for under $15.00 on ebay.
I would suggest a PCMCIA WIFI card which will leave your usb ports free.

You can check with ACER to find out what a new wifi card would cost and if they have any manuals to show how to replace it. I have had many laptops pulled apart and it is much more difficult to replace internal cards and parts than on a desktop.

Below is a link to an ebay page with laptop WIFI cards auction listings.

I hope that this information .helpful and will leave positive feedback for me if you do.

Thank You,

Brian

No antenna cables on toshiba satellite 1405 s151

Some models that come with a wifi card already in them have an antenna. Since you purchased your card after the laptop it does not have an internal antenna. You can purchase the internal antenna but this will require you to take apart your screen.

You could purchase a PCMCIA or USB wifi adapter and use an antenna with those devices without taking apart your laptop.

Hope this helps.

Please help I can't conect to Router MR814V2 with wireless card Encore ENPWI-G2

Hi,

On Windows XP, the OS will prevent a connection to an unsecured wireless network such as what you have.

You can try:
Double click on the red WiFi icon, click on the "Change the order of preferred networks",  Click on "Add", type in the Network name (SSID) of your router (you can get this by using the connected PC and log in to the NetGear's Webbased Interface), set Network Authentication to "Open", set Data encryption to "Disabled",  OK, reboot your PC.

Alternately, you can set the PC where the Encore ENPWI-G2 card is connected to manual configured settings rather than Auto obtain. Follow what is in the connected PC's settings except that the  last number of the IP add be different (ex. connected PC > 192.168.0.100, set the unconnected PC to 192.168.0.101, all the rest subnet, default dns be the same. Of course the 101 must not be in use, if double IP add, change to 102).

In some instances, you may need to use the Encore WiFi configuration utility (normally comes with the drivers in the installer CD) rather than the Windows buil-in WiFi Config utility,

Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turns up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
