Has anybody found a solution for this. I have replaced the Main board and the video interface board. Still has gray screen. It doesn't make sense that the LCD panel would be out. Please help

This Samsung LN-R408D TV has a small surface mounted fuse that has failed on the T-conn board (the small circuit board at the top center of the LCD panel as viewed from the rear)

The fuse is mounted slightly above the LVDS cable connector and the component marking next to the part may begin with a "F". Replacing the fuse with another fuse, or a thin wire filament, or a jumper will restore full functionality to this TV.

Try unhooking the LVDS cable from the controller board and see if it does the same thing. If so you need to replace the LCD panel.

Unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 30 minutes or so. This must make a hard reset to this set.

I'm willing to bet you have a backlight problem. Turn on the TV, take bright flashlight and shine it on the screen. Do you see the faint image???

Sounds like a backlight going bad or possibly the inverter. Check each backlight first for dark discoloration on the ends. If that checks out good then it's the inverter.
