Hp pavillion a810N xp.. Can't burn a CD?

I can no longer burn CD'son my computer. If I put a Music CD in the CD reader- it plays. If I put a DVD in it reads it and plays it- no problem. When I try to burn a CD it says drive cannot be found- or no disc in drive (even if there is one in it). I downloaded nero and had no problem burning a CD... this is just a trial version- so not a long term fix. Can anyone help me figure out how to get the original HP CD burning software back on my computer or if it somehow got turned off... how to urn it back on?

Thanks for the help

I do have all the restore disks..but they just say disk 1 of 8, 2 of 8 ect. does this mean I have to reset my entire computer to factory settings? It's my work computer and has so many files/ programs on it the thought of having to reset it back to factory settings is really scary.

what I really need to do is to be able to drag power points or pictures from my hard drive or a thumb drive and burn then to CD's for my boss/ clients...

I was trying to just figure out where the original software disappeared to on my computer and why my burners won't work unless I use the new software I downloaded a trial of. I really didn't want to have to pay for a new program if i didn't ahve to

that's the problem- i don't know... it was something on my HP computer. I would just drag a file to the "e" drive and it would say files waiting to be written to the disk- then I would put a blank Cd in and say write files- easy peasy! That's why i'm so distraught- I'm not really good at technology :(

No, the southbridge simply is no longer working properly - the PATA controller to which the optical drives are connected has failed. The motherboard is dead, you must replace it.

I'm trying to burn a music cd and the comment pops up. " disc burner or software not found". My internal cd dvd burner is internal and it's not even showing that I have an E: drive now....

Firstly there is a qwerk with windows 7 in that the dvd drive is not always there in computer. You will sometimes see it there and at other not. Dont worry. However what cd burning software do you have? the most popular are Nero and Roxio. If you do have some on your pc then reinstall it and hopefully all will be well.

HI when i put disk in cd rom drive the computer only reads for about 3 seconds and then the message says insert a son has been burning a lot of disks lateluy and not sure why it broke so soon,only...

Loading new device-drivers will not help.
In the first few seconds, the drive is trying to read the first few blocks of data from the media, to see if it is a "data" or "music" or "blank" CD. If nothing can be read (dead laser?) then you get the "insert a disk" message.

> do I need a new unit?

Yes; spend $40 to buy a new CD/DVD reader/writer.

HP a810n will not boot up

On most HP's and Compaq's you can restore the machine by pressing F11 when you see the HP/Compaq screen when you first turn the machine on.
There is a hidden recovery partition on your harddrive and your machine will be restored to the condition it was in when you bought it, the only problem with that is it will delete any personal files you have on the machine like photo's and music.
If you want I can talk you through recovering your personal files before attempting the restore, it will involve removing your harddrive from your computer and linking it to another computer.

HP Pavillion not reading audio CD

It is possible that this is a drive issue, I've seen drives that one of the optical reader device has gone out, but generally it'e the DVD reader and will only read CD's. It's very rare that the CD reader goes and the DVD reader works. Before you replace drive, if it's only music CD's (you didn't mention program CD's), then update your media player. If it still won't play, then unistall the media player and completely reload it. At this point you can replacse the drive.
