SOURCE: KENMORE SERIES 80 BALANCING PROBLEMS

The only thing I can suggest is to make sure the load is evenly distributed around the circumference of the tub. If you do only light to medium loads, this can occur from time to time. Lift lid as the unit goes into the spin cycle to check. If it is evenly distributed, you may have a support problem.

SOURCE: want to remove the agitator to look for my lost diamond ring

If your ring was small enough to go through the holes in agitator, then there is a pump under the washer that has plastic and rubber parts that can be removed. Especially Kenmore which should have a rubber boot type looking thing under the pump. You can't miss it.

SOURCE: Kenmore Washer 70 Series spin cycle not balanced.

You will have to access the tub so you can check the balance system on the tub, either a weight
is missing or a cable is broke or has come off. Should be able to remove back. But you should be able to look at it and tell what happened, everything should look even at the bottom of tub for what ever system is used on it. Someone that has had this model apart could post something that helps you out better. Hope it easy for you to fix on your own with everything being so expensive these days.

SOURCE: dual action kenmore 70 series washer need to remove agitator

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

It sounds as if your "Agitator Dogs" are damaged or broken. These are plastic pieces that allow the top agitator to turn only one way.

Please see the following for how to access and replace them if necessary.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=136&osCsid=39649e541343127154c647348d1156d9

Basically,

1. Remove the fabric softener dispenser.

2. Using a short flat blade screwdriver, remove the cap.

3. You may see a 1/2" square plastic nut.

I've used a 1/2" extension for a socket set to remove the nut.

4. Pull the top agitator off and turn it over carefully.

You should see the agitator dogs (per the illustrations).

Replace them if necessary and re-mount the agitator, tighten the bolt carefully, put the cap and fabric softener dispenser back on and the top part of the agitator should only turn one way.

Fix balance ring

if you have a regular top load direct drive washer and if the tub is tilted off balance remove the frame of the washer, look at the back bottom of the frame, there's a spring that is connected to the bottom of the frame and hooks the the back of the tub, sometimes the frame rusts out and the spring rips through the drill hole in the frame, you have to drill a new hole in the frame and reconnect the spring.i've never seen a balance ring damaged.so this is the first thing i would check if washer is off balance.

CAR KEYS IN MACHINE

If the keys are in the washer they woud be around the agitator It is unlikely that keys on a ring would be under the agitator but if youwant to check you can do the following:

FIX

1 Unplug from the wall

2 remove the plastic cap on top of the agitator hold one of the blades of the agitator and turn the top area counter clockwise and the top should unscrew allowing you to lift up the bottom blades

3 Reverse procedure

There are a few things that can cause this issue.
1. The counter balance spring broke or the mounting hole for the spring rusted through.
2. One or more snubber pads may have come off.
3. The balance ring may have come loose from the basket or the ring has been damaged and the fluid has leaked out..

Start by removing the shell as follows:
A.) The trim on either side can be pried off from the top, grasp and pull forward to expose to expose a screw.
B.) With console lifted you will find a lid switch connector (white in color). Unplug the switch from the connector.
C.) There will be two brass colored clips. Place a flat blade screwdriver straight down into the opening on top of the washer and into the groove of the clip. Push the screwdriver down and away from you and the clip will release.
D.) Open the lid of the washer and place your hand under the front rim of the opening (DO NOT grab the wash tub). Tilt and slide cabinet forward to remove.

1.) The counter balance spring is located in the bottom rear. It should be attached between the cabinet and a bracket on the tub.
2.) Inspect snubber and corner pads. May be brown or white in color.

3. Remove tub ring by pushing down then lifting each locking tab.
Inspect balance ring for proper fit and any cracks. By moving/shaking ring you should hear liquid sloshing around.

KENMORE SERIES 80 BALANCING PROBLEMS

Wiz, That black piece of foam is just a sound dampening strap, no big deal. This is a hard one, I see a lot of these vibrate when there is a false floor. Here are some things to check: makes sure the front legs are locked with the nut. Check to see that all the springs are attached and the plate is centered, I will attach a photo. Depending on whether the machine is walking or just the tub banging, it could be the drive block for the basket. You will have to remove the cabinet or tip it back to check the springs.
