SOURCE: refrigerator not cooling top shelf

it sounds as though you have a fridge that is low on freon. If the ice is appearing mostly to the left, then thats surely your problem. if it goes all the way across, you may have a bad evaporater fan motor, fan motor switch, bad cold control, or just a door that isn't closing or sealing properly. If its the ice mostly to the left side, it probably means your evaporater is leaking the freon. I am assuming you have a model that has a cold control on the back wall, not the electronic display by your description. If your unit is less than 12 years old by the installation date, the part will still be under warranty (sub zero has an unmatched 12 year sealed system parts warranty) but the labor and freon will not be. The repalcement of that evaporater in my area usually runs about $450 with labor, freon and trip all together. It is a repair you cannot do unless you have an acetlyn torch and some silver-soldering/ brazing ability. If your model is in fact the newer style with the electronic temp display, call sub zero up (the # is on the model/serial tag in the door jamb) and tell them wahts going on. If it is in fact an evaporater leaking on this style, they will most likely pay the bill for you even if its well out of the 5 year full warranty. If you want to know for sure, remove all the shelves, then remove the cover over the lights. Then if its electronic remove the 3 screws holding the top of the back panel and tilt the panel out to you and pull it up and out: if its a dial type, remove the 2 screws holding the fan cover and then tilt the back wall out to you and lift it up and outwards, but not too far as it wil pull the wires of that control knob (cold Control) Look at the coils back there and see if the coils are frosty. If they are only frosty on the upper left of the coil, its low on freon and needs an evaporater. if its frosty all the way across, top to bottom, you need a cold control, or possibly a fan or fan switch. Hopefuly you can wade through all this. Just post back if you have any questions. Good Luck!

SOURCE: Refrigerator compressor motor will not run.

Does the fan work? If yes then the compressor has a relay and overload that might be bad. Or it could be a compressor that is bad. If its a compressor then you will need to have a tech verify that it is the problem. If nothing is running then it could be a thermostat thats not switching it on. Let me know if you need any more help with it.

Is the refrigerator still trying to cool as in is the motor still humming? Since many things go wrong, you are going to have to check to see what is still working so that we can narrow it down. This is the first thing that you need to check. Turn it on the coldest setting and see if the motor/pump is still running. Please let me know what you find

SAMSUNG REFRIGERATOR MODEL RT72KBSL1/2012, IS HAVING TEMPERATURE FLUCTUATIONS. for ex, temp reaches -20 than decreases to 9 degree n again -20 n vice versa. There is fluctuations also on display.

Sounds like your thermostat is sticking on and needs replaced. Before replacing check the setting on the thermostat. Almost all themostats are calibrated to maintain the proper temperature in the correct range when the thermostat is set to the mid position. If your thermostat is number 1 to 9, place it at 5. Refrigerator and freezer do not cool faster setting the controls to the coldest setting. This is misconception of a lot of people.

The bottom freezer is not getting cold even though I set it on the coldest setting. The refrigerator is not getting cold when I set to the coldest temp.

If there is no cooling at all , check to see if compressor is running, if not check for power at compressor if no power see if themostat is open

Motor not running Refrigerator not cooling

There are three possibilities why the compressor motor is not running. #1. The thermostat switch is not closing to turn the motor on. #2. The compressor motor is bad. #3 The defrost timer is engaged, preventing the compressor motor from starting.

Solution for #1: Locate the thermostat switch behind the console in the refrigerator. It is attached to the freezer temperature adjusting knob. If you jump the switch out, the compressor motor should start. If it does, replace this switch.

Solution for #2: get another refrigerator. It is not worth repairing.

Solution for #3: Turn the freezer temperature switch to the coldest setting. Locate the defrost timer in the console on the ceiling of the refrigerator compartment. Look for position labels like "cool control" and "compressor". Jump between these two wires. The compressor should start. If it does, replace this module.

Kenmore elite 596 73503201 no cooling in top compartment

if the freezer is getting cold the problem is due to the cold air from the freezer not getting into the refrigerator. There are several things that can cause this problem. The coils in the freezer icing up and not defrosting properly is one of the things that can cause the refrigerator not to get cold enough. Another problem is the fan that blows the cold air from the freezer compartment into the refrigerator, not working. When the compressor is running open the refrigerator's door and push the switch that makes the light go out. You should hear the fan blowing the cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator, when this switch is pushed in. If the fan is working then you will need to find what is blocking the air flow. Iced up coils are a common problem. The icing problem can be due to a defective defrost timer or something defective in the defrost circuit. Click here for more information. Check for these problems and let me know what you have found.

Cooler wont cool below 48 degrees.

Keep a thermometer handy. (adjust temperature control knob accordingly)
Periodically monitor temperatures inside your cooler. (adjust as necessary)
Keep the refrigerator door closed as much as possible to avoid temperature fluctuations

The temperature of the refrigerator compartment is
controlled by adjusting/setting the thermostat control
knob, located on the ceiling of the refrigerator
cabinet.
To start the refrigerator, and achieve maximum
cooling quickly;
• Turn the temperature control knob (using a coin
or screwdriver) clockwise to the furthest
(maximum) setting on the darker blue section of
the graduated control dial.
• Allow the refrigerator to run at this setting for 3~4
hours.
• When maximum cooling is achieved, turn back
the temperature control knob setting to the 2:00
o'clock position on the graduated blue control
dial.
• Correct cooling temperature is a key factor to
consider in storing and dispensing draught beer.
• Optimum temperature for serving draught beer is
between 34ºF ~ 38ºF.(1ºC ~ 3ºC)
• To maintain temperatures ranging between
34ºF ~ 38ºF.(1ºC ~ 3ºC) We recommend the
thermostat knob be positioned at the "2:00
o'clock" setting on the graduated blue control dial.
• To turn off the refrigerator, (no cooling) rotate the
control knob to the "0" position.
