The Ford Sync system is mode driven. If you plug in an iPod. Allow a few minutes to pass (your system may be indexing the music files so it can recognize artist name, song title, etc.). Then push the Voice button on the steering wheel and say USB. The system will respond "USB, state your command." Respond by saying, "Play," "Play All," or "Play Artist + (Artist Name)" or "Play Track + (song title)" Or, you can push the Aux button on the center console, and select "USB" as the source, or you can use the Media button on the steering wheel to scroll through all of the media and then stop on the "USB" source. Use the volume controls to adjust sound levels, use the "Seek" arrows to jump track to track.

I own a 2009 Hyundai Elantra and was told I could plug my iPod into the iPod USB port using my iPod cable (Apple's). However, neither my iPod Touch or iPod Nano work. Once connected, it just says "Reading...

I have used the Apple iPod cable with no problem in the Elantra USB port with an iPod Nano & iPod Classic. You have to change the music settings, skip songs, etc. from the iPod which is distracting while driving.

I purchased the cord made by Hyundai at the dealership, that plugs into both USB and aux port. The music titles, album info etc show up on the radio screen, and you can use the buttons on the radio to change the tunes, view artists, albums... (safer while driving!). I've seen sellers on eBay that sells the Hyundai made one (cheapest starts @ $24+ w/ s/h - link here) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-HYUNDAI-2009-09-iPOD-INPUT-USB-AUX-AUDIO-CABLE_W0QQitemZ230379648893QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Audio_Video?hash=item35a3b2777d&_trksid=p4506.m20.l1116, as well as copycat ones - I wouldn't buy a copycat one (my opinion).

Do you have a case on your iPods? I have experienced the "reading error" with the Hyundai cord on my son's iPod Classic (he has a leather case on it). It seems to do that because the plug going in to the iPod is not making full contact with the iPod because of the case. When he takes the case off and reconnects, there are no further problems.

Hope this helps, Good luck!

IPod connection problem with Ford Focus

I think you have to connect both the line-in to the earphone-connector and the USB to the USB-connector on the iPod.
Don't ask me why, but that seems to work (according to another Dutch forum http://www.focusclub.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4201&sid=be5c9f538bd310a274324907aff98513). I haven't tested it yet (don't have a line-in to line-in cable).

Sync will not recognize ipod in usb port

Actually, I've had this happen twice to me. The first time I **** at the dealership (the car was just 2 weeks old). They took the car for the day and fixed it but wouldn't really tell me what they did. The second time it happened I fixed it myself. DO ALL THIS WITH THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. Under the driver's side dash, right to the left of the steering wheel column (or to the right if you are hanging upside down trying to see down there ;-) ) you'll notice a black plug-like object with a thick bound cable running out of it. The thing to note here is there is a white locking lever on the plug. If you pull down the white lever, the plug lock will release. Then, gently pull the plug away from the base it is plugged into - you have now unplugged sync. Wait a few seconds and plug it back in. Be very careful to guide it in correctly as it has tons of pins and you don't want to bend any of them. Once back in, re-engage the white locking lever. Finally, turn your car back on. Once on, the USB port should now work but most likely Sync will still have problems recognizing the device (especially one thats been previously paired/indexed). If it does, perform a 'master reset' of sync through its advanced menu. After doing all of the above, I was able to re-add my iphone as a USB music device and bluetooth phone. Let me know if this helps?
