SOURCE: case 580 super e.

You are having the typical shuttle failure. There is a bellville type spring that returns the clutches when pressure is taken from the clutch pack. That spring will fail with time, it is nothing you did.

One of the belt keepers broke off where it bolts to the frame. the only thing I can see causing this is the drag link is hitting it when the wheel is turned. What can I do to keep this from happening?

The steering wheel gear is out of adjustment. To repair this you must drop the plate under the tractor. Remove the two bolts holding the steering assembly, there you will a gear at the bottom of the steering wheel shaft. This gear matches up with a spline that controls the steering wheel travel. You must make sure, that the wheels are facing straight ahead. Place the steering gear at the center of the opposing gear teeth, this will give the steering wheel perfect travel in both directions. You will encounter a problem trying to replace the bolts back in,when reinstalling the steering wheel shaft assembly. You must keep the wheels straight,at all times, any movement from center will again throw the wheels out of adjustment. I almost forgot the most important step the mower must be removed Sound hard, doing this repair, when explaining, but can see what has to be done,is much easier. Please,be careful you most certainly, will have to jack up the tractor to get get to the steering assembly. Hope this helps. Sincerely,Brad Locke

2004 Toyota highlander steering wheel is locked but turned halfway, key wont turn and wheels are straight

there is a load on the lock pin in the steering column try turning the steering wheel a bit left or right to release the pin as you try turning the key.
Steering wheel locks never lock straight ahead as the idea is that if the car is being stolen it will turn a circle rather that move straight

Craftsman DLT 3000 Lawn Tractor, Model 917.273821. Two problems for which I'd appreciate any help: Problem 1. The front wheels are not aligned. The left front wheel cants out to the left so much so...

Problem 2 is probably a belt slipping or a pulley loose somewhere.Problem 1 .........is the tie rod adjustable? If the tie rods are adjustable, put steering wheel where it's supposed to be when straight, then adjust tie rods so that each wheel is pointed straight ahead. There should be a lock nut that needs to be loosened, then turn the tie rod end in or out and tighten lock nut. Back to problem 2....if it isn't the belt or pulley, it may not be an easy fix.Sometimes over time, belts stretch and get loose, or a set screw in a pulley can work loose, and cause the pulley to slip on the shaft. If it is hydraulic, it might be low on fluid.. I don't know for sure as I am not a big fan of Craftsman lawn tractors. Good luck

Locked up Steering Wheel

Your Wheels may not be straight which could cause the steering wheel lock to get stuck. Turn the steering wheel left and right, from one stop to the other, watching how far the wheel travels. Now, turn the wheel to the center of the travel distance and turn the key. If this doesn't free it up, turn the key as you turn the steering wheel left then right to get the lock to release the wheel. Hope this helps and please rate my solution - and thanks for using Fixya!!

Clutch slipping adjust

you have a 580 ck backhoe and a red box so I am not as to what the red box is referring to . As far as the case backhoe I believe the 580 ck is a hydromagnit and is a 1985 to 88 vintage there are two linkages on one side to do quick turns you can stop a wheel and turn that direction while turning the steering wheel to the same direction but this is a brake adjustment the two pedals on lets say passenger side for clarity or left side looking from the from has two pedals the one on the far right is the pedal for right side and the one on the left side is for the left brake, on the oppsite side of the machine you have a foot pedal that disengages the transmission by pushing down on the pedal and there are adjustments to that pedal as well you can shorten the Travel of the pedal by loosening the locking nut and then turning the clevis's after you have removed the cotter pin and the clevis pin then you can shorten or lengthen it's travel to change it. From off the top of my head I believe the most common problem with these backhoes was the clevis pin rod would get bent or the clevis pin would wear out and cause slipping from the transmission, but it is not a clutch per Se it is an actuating rod that engages the tork converter There is also a valve on the back of the transmission that is electrically engaged that comes loose that would cause it to slip. so after checking that the clevis pin rod is straight then check that the differential has oil in it and also the transmission has oil in it if either are low in oil it can cause it to slip so check that too. there is the possibility that the forward and reverse handle may be out of adjustment and or worn causing it not to work but you will have to go step by step, check fluid levels also have you changed the transmission oil filter? this can cause it to slip as well. good luck finding out your problem check the top transmission oil level too if you have not done so as this could cause you problems as well. if you need any more information just post to this answer and I will try to help you as much as I can but your better off buying a book on it to figure your problem out if your don't know anything about this tractor.

The key wont turn in the ignition of my hyundai santa fe, its a 2005. The steering wheel lock is on and the wheels are straight, the key does not turn at all.

hi from uk please try this ? with key removed try gently turning steerwheel to the right if you feel a slight spring in steering ? hold on the spring and insert key it should work and release lockand turn ign on ? if steering is springing on left ? try as above the same method not unusual for steer lock to prevent turning key as the steering even in straight position ? the necessity to gently release load on lock is req'd to allow key to turn/unlock the steering lock from the steering column practice doing the above each time you fit key to unlock steering and tuning ign on to start hope this helps

Ignigtion locked up. Acts like it wrong key, but only 1 I have and has worked up until now. Steering wheel and gear shift locked also

Hi TK,

This happens every once in a while when there is stress on the steering lock plate. Which ever direction the wheels are pointed, turn the steering a little more in the same direction while at the same time turning the key.

Taking the pressure off releases the ignition enough to turn the key.

Best regards
Mike

2006 Chevy Cobalt - key stuck in ignition;car has basically gone into shutdown mode. Any clue as to what this issue might be?

Went thru this with the neighbor. At the 6:00 position under the column is a plastic panel. Remove it with small screwdriver. Using index finger , press on white plastic button. This releases switch and allows you to remove key. Replace plastic panel.
