Question about Jura Capresso Coffee Makers & Espresso Machines

Impressa C9 - flat tasting espresso

I recently purchased the Impressa C9, and am very unsatisfied with the flavor of the espresso. Previously, I've been making my espresso w/ the Rancilio Silvia using their burr grinder, and was very happy with the results. As an experiment, I used the ground beans from the Rancilio in the C9 and found the results satisfying. Using the C9 system the flavor is flat and watery. Using the Rancilio Grinder the espresso coming out of the C9 is much better. (richer deeper flavor, more complex) In the C9 I've tried all of the grind settings from fine to coarse, at high temp and normal, and w/ 1 to1.5 OZ, but I'm not able to come close to the rich flavor I get from the Silvia. I am using an Italian Roast from Coffee Express. It is a dark brown roast from a quality bean. I open enough for a few days, then vacuum seal the bag and store in a dark dry place. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

SOURCE: rancilio silvia

It more likely is the automatic boiler shut off if the boiler overheats. Just reset the boiler.

SOURCE: unable to make coffee automatically using whole beans

The rivets in the back of the Jura Capresso units are actually oval security screws. The bit that removes these screws are made of a very hard metal and cost me over $50.00 two years ago. Also many people who attempt there own repairs tear off the little plastic tabs that keep everything together nice and tight. We repair Jura Capresso Krups Bosh etc. www.hotncold.com

SOURCE: rancilio miss silvia dispenses cold water

If there is steam in the machine, the only other problem would be if the portafilter was cold and you are brewing into metal or glass demitasse that has not been heated.

SOURCE: Rancilio Silvia Espresso water flows too quickly about 7 seconds

  1. check the coffe filter>> it could be teard up and leaking(check it carefuly it is hard to see sometimes)
  2. check the pressure you get from group. 7 - 9 bar pressure you should get to handle. if it is biger than check by pas valve and adjust the pressure, also check up boiler security valve(security valve for water for coffee)

How can I avoid bitter coffee?

If the water that comes into contact with the coffee grounds is too hot, you will extract bitter elements from the coffee. The water should not be boiling when poured on the coffee grounds. Coffee oils, fats and sediment are the natural parts of the coffee bean that causes bitterness by forming as the brew ages. The longer the coffee sits the stronger it tastes.

Clogged nozzle

Try poking something in the hole of the brother. I usually bend out a paper clip and use it. After clean the machine with vinegar.

Jura c9 on out of box start up won't leave rinse cycle and enter heating mode. Checked rotary dial but it seems fine.

You need to be patient and keep pressing the rinse button. I took a few water tanks of rinsing before it clicked over to heating mode. The manual and DVD need to mention this!

Ran descale program and coffee still tastes funny (bitter)

If you are using a Claris filter, please remove this from the watertank. The descaling agent will clog the filter and make the water taste bad. After descaling, also be sure to rinse the watertank so there`s no resedue of the solvent left in the tank.

However, bitter taste on the coffe usually is related to the coffee side; Try to run a cleaning program. And check grinder settings. If the powder is to fine, it will increase the contact time, and that will make the coffee bitter. My advise is to clean the machine and experiment a little with the grinder settings.

Good luck!

My jura impressa c9 coffee machine keeps tellnd me to fill beans when bean container is full

I just called their customer service 800-220-5701 with the same problem.

There's a point at the bottom of the chute where you can add ground coffee that tends to clog, especially if water gets in there. Access is from underneath - - remove the bottom tray and reach in - - it's not the hinged flap opening (that's the first thing you'll feel) but if you leave that closed and reach behind it, there's a silver-dollar sized area you're supposed to try to access and clean using a dry cloth. Once that's done you're supposed to try vacuuming from the top and then let it dry for a day or two.
