Linksys Wireless-G Print Server

I have a Linksys Wireless-G Print Server. I have lost the CD that comes with it to set up the software. Is there anywhere I can download the wizard, and also does the print server have to be plugged into my wireless router?

1. For re-configuration of the printserver, it has to be wired to the router.
2. You may go to this site http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1166859942287&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&displaypage=nodata#versiondetail to download the setup wizard.

Manuals and software can be downloaded from:

http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/lbc/WPS54G

Then they could be easily burned to disc if you'd like a backup. Hope this helps!

Tip

Installation CD for the print server

If you are having trouble going through the setup process on the installation cd do the following:

  1. Disable any encryption settings on your wireless router.
  2. Disable MAC filtering.
If these features are enabled during the installation setup process, the wireless features will not work unless you go into the admin settings of the print server by typing the IP address into internet explorer. Type in the correct encryption settings.

Linksys has a provision in the setup software to key in the correct encryption however the software doesn't put the information in properly. This will cause the wireless not to work and allow the print server to work only when it is wired to the network.

Encryption settings have to be entered through the administration settings of the router by typing in the IP address of the print server using internet explorer.

How do I connect with my WGPS606 if there is no setup cd and the default ip does not work? My router has encryption and the WGPS needs the info.

you need to set your print server for dhcp, you need to log in and verify the settings OR just set it back to default because dhcp is default. gl

Re-set of wireless g print server

With this print server not all printer are compatible with it, but if you connect same model of printer that was also working with this print server, best thing to do here again is to reset the router and reconfigure it back using the setup CD that came with it and if still the same problem, it will be better to call Linksys tech support so they can check if your printer is compatible with this print server if its compatible let one of the Linksys tech walk you through with the process, they are open 24/7 this is the number 800-3267114....

Hope that helps...........

Upgrade failure

The software that came with the WPS54G model is not (yet)compatible with Vista systems. This model is not listed on the Vista-ready devices from Linksys' website (www.linksys.com/vista). The behavior more likely a result of a software incompatibility.

For PrintServer network setup, you may still use the CD on a non-Vista system (XP, Win2000 or lower). Or, by installing it manually by accessing it's web interface.

To make your Vista working with the printserver WITHOUT the use of the PrintServer CD, do the ff:
1. Make sure PrintServer is configured on the network with the same wireless settings of your router and with a manually assigned IP address which is in range of the router's IP segment.
2. Make sure that computer can print locally to the printer (e.g. via USB connection to the printer).
3. When computer can surf the net and connected to the router's network (wired or wireless), follow the steps from this article and make sure Printer is showing up as Online.

Goodluck!

Any way to make this work with an iMac?

on the LinkSys product overview it says that the WPSM54G Wireless Print Server requires windows XP or 2000 to install correctly. This doesn't necessarily mean you CANT use it with an iMac, but doing so becomes slightly more of a pain in the rear than it's worth. For more information look up the print server model on the LinkSys webpage. There is a potential solution available there but the directions are unconfirmed so i will not link them here.

Wireless-G WPS54GU2 Print Server Lost disk

if you visit the LinkSys website you should be able to download all applicable drivers and files for this print server. Also you will likely be able to access a user manual (in PDF format) which should give you all the information you need.

Linksys Wireless-G Print Server

Dear Davisj, This is a typical problem that occurs when you have an active firewall. Try disabling the firewall and you should be able to print. Linksys is known for their customer service and expertise, I would suggest giving these folks a call at: 1-800-LINKSYS, they will walk you through the process of setting this up correctly. If you don't want to call, the problem lies in your firewall. Look for the IP address on the printed test page. If you are using a Linksys router with a default IP address of 192.168.1.1, the printserver should be getting an IP range of 192.168.1.x as well indicating that it is properly obtaining an IP address from the network. Once you locate your IP address all you need to do is go to your Firewall settings for your Mcafee software and add permission to add a specific IP address and you will enter your Print Server's IP address. This should fix your problem! Good luck! The following link should provide you with additional details to fix your Print Server: http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C2&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1166859942287&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=4228741076B05
