Mitsubishi WD-52525 DLP HDTV screen went bad

Hello, My 1 year old Mitsubishi WD-52525 DLP HDTV has started having probem with the display. Earlier in the week it looked like my cable signal or something justseemed to be getting worse, then all of sudden yesterday I turn the TV on and the display is mainly horiziontal lines sort of moving up and down to different heights on the screen. Occassionally the image will work itself out and come back on the screen, that deteriorate back into the horizontal colered lines. I tried various inputs(coax, component, yellow, white, red,) and various sources such as DVD, cable, vidio games, but they are all equally messed up. Nowm if I am going through any of the TV menus and not actually using a video signal, the TV displays all the menus and stuff perfectly. Any idea what the problem might be? Thanks so much for any suggestions you can provide? Also, is it worth my money to by a service manual for this TV in order to try to fix this? I haven't ever used a TV service manual so I am not sure how helpful they are. Thanks again! Kyle

I am the original poster on this problem and I ended up having to call a Mitsubishi repair guy who had to replace some kind of "board" that basically required him to disect the entire TV to get at. It took this guy and his wife about 3 hours, but I called Mitsubishi and started complaining about the problem(really complaining loudly) and considering my TV was only a little older than a year old they paid for all repairs. It would have been almost a grand to have repairewd myself. I'll try to find the receipt to give you some idea of exactly what was done, but the repair guy basically told me that the way these TV's were designed, you can expect ongoing issues, including something about a "color wheel"?

Purchased WD 52525 Sept 2004 it was a brand new ,05. Worked great, good color and I just replaced the bulb about 6 months ago. Yesterday, in the middle of a show, Horizontal lines started to appear. I thought it was cable and changed the channel. At first it reminded me of those times you had to fix the horizontal lines in VCR pictures. We turned it off and today, the horizontal lines are worse. We disconnected all periphials and the blue sceen still has this series of lighter blue lines, mainly in the center and it is a bit larger in the very center (sorta how a 2-d blue shot of Saturn would look, light blue). We have not called Mits repair, will probably do this tomorrow. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I have a Mits 52525 which had the dreaded blinking green lite sydrom. Following the advice of the writers of this forum, I repleaced the caps on the power board with a kit purchased on line from Service Manuals. It didn't work, but I was amazed how well the process was described and it only took me (not Mr. Electronics) about 2 hours to complete the repairs. Anyway, I'm not discouraged. Anyone know what the next step might be?

Bought my TV 4 years ago. Has been wonderful until about a month ago. Started to see either floating dark diagonal lines or white/blue vertical lines on the picture. Sometimes picture is clear, sometimes not. Beginning to think it is the TV. Wondering if I should buy new or try to fix old...sigh.

I repaired 3 sets and found many surface-mount caps were bad on four boards. After using an ESR meter and finding so many bad caps, I ended up replacing most of them (about 100). The parts were cheap, but it took me about 10-12 hours to repair. I've seen so-called capacitor repair kits on the web that only address the large caps on the power board. You can buy these individual caps at Mouser.com for under $10.00. Luckily people toss these sets so I have 3 awesome sets that only cost me labor and about $30.00. Sorry for the bad news about the caps.

I'm having the exact same problem! This morning it was working fine, now this afternoon the screen is flickering, mostly blue with a lighter blue area in the center, lots of vacillating vertical lines, and the menus are distorted and jumping around the screen. The TV responds to the remote but switching inputs doesn't help (some are more black than blue and have even worse display of tv menus). Does someone have a solution (other than "if you wouldn't fix a nuke then don't try to fix a TV")?

Now if you had a service manual, what would you do? or Test? These are not things that you should experiment with fixing as they are very unforgiving. If your not experienced with DLP TV's then you should seek out a pro to assist you unless you got tons of cash to throw around and start to replace boards. As once you buy a board, its yours no trying and taking back my friend. would you work on a nuck missle?? its the same as you have no know how on either.. Good Luck

Hello,
There is a software update that is available for some Mitsubishi dlp models. The wd-65c9 is one of them. When I experienced your problem, I went to the website, downloaded the update, and installed it on my tv and boom, its fixed. It's super easy, free, and takes a few minutes.

Our Mitsubishi WD 52525 goes to blue screen and shuts off.

It sounds like you TV is overheating and the video is suffering and the lamp is overheating as well. Also, if your TV is over 2-3 years old, the mirrors (behind and below the big front screen) desperately need to be cleaned. Clean all filters and fans as well. (Look on side and behind the unit). Is the TV in a "hot" environment and/or dirty environment? DLP TV's are NOT sealed units. They need to be cleaned every few years to work well to have a good, clear, bright picture.

Mitsubishi WD-52525

Normal 0 The Mitsubishi WD-52525 has a serious capacitor problem as discussed in this forum overseen by a Mitsubishi certified repair technician: http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/mitsubishi/11703-problem-mitsubishi-wd-52525-scrambled-picture-no-picture-2.html. There has been a worldwide problem in computers and TVs over thepast several years with faulty electrolytic capacitors (from Taiwan) thatdecay, dry out, swell and die. The power supply is often the firstcomponent to go bad, but other systems also degrade over time. As theforum explains , this problem is widespread in these sets causing multipletypes of display problems after several years of use. On my set, I also got a blue screen with a lighter blue ball in the middle. Mitsubishi is awareof the problem and will cover most of the cost of repairing the chassis, evenyears out of warranty, but apparently ONLY if you get an estimate from aMitsubishi certified repair station and contact their customer support BEFOREdoing any work on the set. I just followed the recommended procedure onthat forum and Mitsubishi is covering half the cost of my $700+ repair when my3+ year-old set recently died and showed only this blue screen on all inputs.
