You can use a HP recovery disc for your model computer which will return the computer to out of the box condition. You may need to purchase this disc from the HP WEB site. If you just want to wipe the hard disk clean and sell it without an operating system installed then you can use this program. Wipe Data off Hard Disk with Darik's Boot and Nuke, (DBAN) Create a Darik's Boot and Nuke on CD disc, then boot up the computer with this disc. http://www.dban.org/download
Wow, that's unfortunate. You're up the creek without a paddle. I'm not calling you a thief, but 99% of the time when you encounter a computer that has the lock on the hard drive and the person in possession of the computer does not know the password, the computer is stolen. The original owner put the password lock on to keep thieves from getting to sensitive data.
Go to Gateway Support website and type your serial number. All drivers for this model will be listed. http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/dlcenter.asp?cmpid=topnav
firstly make sure your computer hardware can support xp. get a genuine copy of xp,boot with it and follow the onscreen instructions.make sure you have a backup of your data,as depending on what you choose, there is an option of Formatting the hard disk which erases everything from the computer.
search for your computer model on google or the manufacturers website if you know the manufacturer name.if you give me the exact model and make i might be able to help.
If You are familiar with the windows installation, you can reinstall windows. During installation, the system asks You about partition where You want to install windows. So:
1. Select option Delete partition, and answer the question of the system "yes". This option erase All your existing information.
2. Create the partition on the same disc.
3. Install the windows on the same partition. That's all.
If You have another partitions or disc, just format it. And don't forget backup Your personal data!
In any case, is much better to sell the computer with the operation system recently installed - it works much better than a PC with used OS.
Best regards.
1. If you use the system recovery and go into advanced, it will erase all personal data and all programs installed, putting it back to the way it was when you first purchased the computer. 2. To get to the system recovery on an hp, you press the key that is indicated during bootup, either F10 for older ones or F11 on the newer ones. It will boot into the recovery mode from where you select the advanced option. It will give you a warning that all your personal information will be gone.
