SOURCE: removed splatter shield

If you can supply the brand and model, we can probably point you to the supplier for the splatter shield (waveguide cover).

The door shouldn't really fog up too much (not permanently anyway) as long as the internal cooling fan and seals are okay.

The door panels can usually be separate for cleaning if it's absolutely necessary, but it's a pain of a job.

Again, brand and model mean everything, so if you can give us those we can probably get more specific. Happy to help.

SOURCE: scratches on microwave door

Replacing the door is a bit of a job and I'd bet that Viking parts will be very pricey. Even though these are made by Sharp, you'd have to order door parts from Viking.

You may be able to buff it out with jeweler's rouge / paste or toothpaste on a cotton cloth or even a microfiber polishing cloth.

I advise my customers to never use Windex (ammonia-based) or anything other than a soft cloth to clean the plastic parts.

Please reply back if you need further help.

SOURCE: Cleaning inside of microwave door

You have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

I HAVE A WHIRLPOOL MICROWAVE AND IT HAS RUST INSIDE THE DOOR ON THE METAL SCREEN, HOW CAN i REMOVE THE RUST?

Have to replace the inner door, some of those are available as a complete door assembly. Unit must come down and door unbolted from cavity of unit. Write down your model number, it is on the wall inside the unit. Take that number and call an appliance part store and give them that number, maybe look it up online and see what you find.

I own a microwave: model # jes636wk01 There is a plastic film covering the wire mess on the inside of the door. Will the microwave operate safely if the film is damaged or removed?

yes. It is there to protect the glass from food splatters It is the panel with the million holes that controls the micro waves I would not remove it but have it replaced if damaged.

I have a GE Profile convection/microwave oven, Model No JVM1790 BKC01. One of the plastic clips that holds the oven rack in place caught fire. Location of clip is top front right hand corner next to the...

Most rack support problems I have seen are from food splatter or grease getting around the support and even seeping behind it. Once it starts burining it must be replaced. It is really important to keep the area around them clean and dry and free from food splatter. A Microwave cannot tell what is on a plate or on the wall or rack support, and every food particle cooks each time the unit is run, until it turns to a carbon deposit and starts to attract the microwave energy and starts to ARC to that point.
Then it burns up the part it is arcing to. Have to replace support and scrub the area and inside of the cavity perfectly clean.

My microwave has a hole burned through the door.

This can start when food splatters on the inner door, then from that point the microwaves that do the cooking are attacking that splatter eventually burning a hole in the door. Do not use the microwave oven in this condition. You will need to have the door parts that are damaged replaced

The parts can be ordered from the Panasonic authorized parts rep. You have to contact Panasonic for details.

I strongly recommend to have any work on a microwave oven done professionaly. There are radiation leakage issues if the door is not re-assembled properly. After doing any service the microwave oven must be tested for radiation leaks. I doubt that you have the radiation testing equipment to make sure that there are no leaks.

XL1800 Microwave Problem

A LOUD ticking sound could very well be a High Voltage Arc. This is usually caused by a breakdown of insulation on High Voltage Wires, or components. It can also be arcing between the door frame and the cavity. Usually where the bottom of the cavity floor meets the door frame. Indication of this will be small areas on the door where it looks like the paint has been chipped off, but if you look close you will see it is small burned marks. Another area is the Splatter Shield located inside and at the top. It looks like a Plastic Cover. It is not plastic, but a fiber material. Grease, and food will get trapped on and under this Splatter Shield. Over a period of time the grease and food particles will break down from being cooked over and over again. They will then form Carbon. Which will Arc when Microwaves are present. Remove Push-Pins holding Splatter Shield. Clean by washing with dish detergent . If burned (arc) spots are still present after washing, replace Splatter Shield or arcing will continue. Once Carbon has burned through, it will continue to burn.

I am currently fixing my microwave, which has done the same thing. Go to http://www.repairclinic.com/SmartSearch/smartsearch.aspx?SearchText=%60AMicrowave

just select your brand and under parts, select doors and handles. It will be called Door film, peel & stick. For my microwave, it runs from $16.00 to $21.00. Seems like a very easy fix.
