Change the batteries in your remote. If your cat was laying on a button it could have drained them.
Here's tip - you can use your camera on your cell phone to see the IR signal coming out of your remote. Point the remote at your cam and press "On" or any button. You should see a bright flash with every key stroke.

You need to check the output voltages of the power supply to see which one goes off. It may be due to short circuits some where.
Please see my basic troubleshooting guide here:

There remains only the fluorescent back light tube(s) or the inverter that supplies high voltage for it (them). If you had no warning flickering, I would look for the inverter board.

SOURCE: no sound for DVD and
The picture in your Vizio HD plasma TV is Ok, and troule is only with sound, I thinks and posts this solution.
Just reset your TV to its factory settings first and observe the change. If it doesn't help, sound detecting section in the printed ciruit board is faulty. It is integrated with sound board, and cannot be repaire, as it contains SMD [Suface Mount Devices] on board, which needs special equipements to resolder it out and solder in. You cnnot do this at home. Sometimes, sound detection section as a whole as printed circuit boad should be replaced. After this card replacement, special software installation should be done, to get it work properly, and this should be done by any experienced techinican, who has most modern testing equipments with him. Anyway, just reset it to factory settings and see. If the fault is doue to any setting defects, this will resolve it. to get it factory settings, do the following.
Enter the setup mode screen.
There are Closed Caption, Language, Factory reset, Image cleaner and firmware version will be displayed.
With the help of UP/Down and Forward/Backward arrow buttons hilight the factory setting option and set it ON and press OK or Enter.
Set will go Off and will come back again with factory settings. After that switch OFF the TV with it front panel power ON'OFF button. Wait for a minute, switch it On again and check. If the fault is due to any settings you have done, this process will rectify it. Ohterwise decide yourself what to do. OK
