SOURCE: loose screen hinges

You can't. They're worn out and the way they're manufactured doesn't allow for a easy tightening unfortunately. I would pick up a new / used pair from ebay and then just swap them out.

SOURCE: THE LID IS LOOSE AND THERE ARE NO SCREWS TO TIGHTEN ON THE HINGES

You do not need to replace the hinges, however your need to remove the font panels of the screen and laptop to remove the hinges. You will see that the pin that connects the top part of the hinge to the bottom part of the hinges has over time moved out of alignment. With pliers and a hammer manipulate the hinge pin so that it is now flush with the hinge itself. You will see that the hinge will then become tight. Then just reinstall the hinge. I just did this and I know it works.

SOURCE: laptop hinges are loose

The hinges can be loose in two different areas, but the most popular is the hinge attachment point behind the screen bezel. Remove the rubber screw covers from the bezel, remove the screws, take your finger nailas and from the inside of the bezel pull gently to the outside to release the catches on the screen lid. Start on one side and work your way around the screen until the bezel pops loose. Look at the bottom of the screen and you will see the hinge attachment points. Tighten them up. If you have some locktite this would be a good time to apply it, remove the screws one at a time and replace. To replace the bezel, always start at the bottom and work your way up.

SOURCE: screen hinges are too loose.

Unfortunately, you can't tighten the hinges. All you can do is replace them if they lose their grip and loosen up. They aren't expensive (here's one source on eBay as a sample, and there are others), and it's not too difficult to change them. HP has a document here explaining the procedure. Good luck with the repair, and thanks for using Fixya!

Yes. Strip down the laptop and screen. The hinges will be exposed and they can be tightened up. Use care because if too tight, they will break the plastic case.

Loose hinge/lid on Dell latitude D410 laptop-lid does not stay upright and falls back flat and no screws to tighten...How can you fix this? Thanks

I took the hinge cover off to look for myself to see if there were in fact some set screws to tighten the monitor up. None were found, no suprise there. While on ebay ordering a new hinge set I noticed that the picture of the new hinges didn;t look the same as what I observed on the laptop. The pin on the right was sticking out on my lapto but in the picture on ebay it was flush.
I used a flat ended phillips tip screwdriver and pushed the pin back in while gently rocking the monitor back and forth. That seemed to solve the problem.

Lenovo Ideapad Y510 Hinge problem

hinges take alot of stress as they have to be quite tight to hold the screen in a certain position, alot of laptops can have over tightened hinges and cause splitting in the housing. Hinges can quite often come loose.
Make sure all screws are present around the hinge area and if you can tighten up your hinges.
If the hinges are badly damage you can buy replacments for a few $ off of ebay

Monitor lid will not stay in position.

On most models the hinges are a pressed in, pressure brake type hinges, and when the hinge start getting worn to the point of not holding the screen, then they can only be replaced in order to fix it. You can sometimes get away with replacing just one. On some models there are screws on the hinges that come loose that can cause this. The screws aren't for adjusting, they are basically just set screws. You won't know which is the problem until you take the covers off. Most likely you're going to have to replace the hinges. Try Ebay for the replacements.

Screen problem with the hp pavillion zv6000 notebook pc

Sometimes intemittant video can be caused by a couple differnet things on a portable system.

1. Bad ground. Some LCD are grounded to the chassis through the hinges. If the screws for the hinges become loose, the ground becomes intermittant. So tighten any screws for the LCD hinges.

2. Sometimes the LCD video cable connection to the video card becomes loose from heat expansion. So see if you can find the service manual on the HP web site, and see how to reseat the video cable (should be listed under the LCD install/removal)

3. If neither of those resolve, then you may have a problem with the LCD itself or the cable that goes to the video card as hte cable goes thru the hinge assembly.

Try tightening all the screws around the hinge area, if that is not the problem I am sure the actual hinges can be replaced for a fairly reasonable amount.

Monitor on Samsung P25 very loose.

You need new hinges for the screen. Im trying to source some hinges but having difficulty. Maybe purchasing a nackered laptop with good hinges on a popular auction website might be an option. How much were you quoted?
