Onkyo HT-R500 amplifier protection circuitry activated

When I power on, it shuts off immediately. I only see 3 fuses and they are all intact. Any suggestions?

I changed all the fuses, and still wont keep power on, rather hooked up or not. I hate to drive 75 miles to a service center when the prob could be fixed myself.

I have the exact same issue - my HT-R500 receiver (disconnected from all speakers) shuts off imediately after pressing the power button. Please let me know if you find out what the problem is and how to fix it. I'll do the same.

same problem but ....... mine started doing this when i saw smoke come up from it ! it wasn't even on when it happend only in stand by.

when i opened up the top cover ( if you do this be careful there are comparators in there that hold 500w of voltage ) i noticed that one of the heat sync's was broken and cracked ( twords the front of the system ) i asume that it goes into protection mode if something is wrong .

U have a short.

remove all speakers cables and turn it on, if remains on and u can up the volume do the next.
1: turn it off.
2: connect only 1 speaker cable (each time to see if the short is in one speaker or cable)
3: turn it on, up the volume.
this way u must be able to see what cable or speaker have the problem.

if still the same prob the short is inside.
i put a answer of a prob where cant up of 41 check the cleaning method.

Good luck

If that is true the power transformer is probably open at the primary, the secondary voltages feed the receiver and power various parts. I suggest getting it checked, my worry is the power transformer may not be available from the parts manufacture.

This site said it was free - then there is a charge? I am getting a "Protecting" message when I turn on my receiver - then it shuts off....What does this mean and what should I do?

It means the receiver senses excessive heat, or a short at its outputs. Disconnect the speaker wires and see if that helps. If not, get it to a Tech. If it turns on, figure out which speaker path(s) was causing the problem and resolve it.

The manual.

Power shuts off immediately after power on.

• Amplifier protection circuitry is activated. Remove the power cord from the outlet immediately. Contact your Onkyo service center.

Power shuts off immediately after power on, amplifier circuitry has been activated for a Onkyo HTR500. how do fix the problem? do I change the fuse.

If you disconnect the speaker wires from it and it still happens, you should get it into a technician to look at it.

Onkyo ht-r500 no speakers attached goes directly into protect mode, standby light blinking..

I have a HT-R520 - First thing stated in the manual is 'Do Not Apply Power to the System Until All the Speakers Are Connected to the Receiver.' This practice avoids any hot connects to the speakers. As with any high-outpiut system connecting spreaker wires to the system while in operation can spike the speakers as well as the amplifier curcuits. Hook up your speakers first and give it a try. Good Luck!

Power will not stay on

Activated protection circuitry means that the amplifier is seeing conditions it does not like and is shutting down the power to prevent further damage.
Either you have a short in your speaker wires, in your speakers, or a blown amplifier.
Disconnect both speakers and turn on the amplifier. Does it still give the error message? If it does, your amp is blown. If it does not, carefully inspect your speaker wires and their connection. Make sure all looks good and reconnect the speakers and try it again. Still get the error message? You likely have a problem in your speaker cabinet(s).

My Onkyo Receiver TX 601 is turning itself off

Several things can cause this: Loud signal passages can momentarily draw high currents at the mains, especially if you have unit plugged into power stripe with other equipment. Or if unit is plugged into isolation transformer, current draw may exceed output of transformer. Too many speakers hooked to output or if one is bad (partially shorted due to overheating)
