My husband kept telling me that 1 was the coldest and there must be something wrong with the fridge because nothing would stay cold. I thought the same until I saw that the Off setting was listed after the 1. Then I knew 7 was the coldest setting but thanks for confirming!

What temp should my admiral freezer be at it go,s from warmer to colder 1 to 10?

You need to put a freezer thermometer inside the cabinet.

It should be minus 18 Centigrade or 0 degrees Fahrenheit.

Start off at 5 on your dial and adjust daily until you reach -18/0

You can pick these up at Home Depot or Houseware stores.

Fridge not cold enough

The higher the number the colder the temp is supposed to be.

In order to prevent the formation of bacteria and other such organisms to affect food the way it does, the ideal temperature range of refrigerators has been mentioned here. Before we look at these settings, it is important to know the format in which temperatures are represented within a refrigerator. Commonly, you will notice a dial representing the figures 1-5 or 1-9 in the refrigerator, and a dial representing the letters A-E in the freezer. The ideal setting is usually in the middle of such figures.

If the dial is in such a format in your refrigerator, try a setting at 3 if the range is 1-5, and at 4 if the range is 1-9. For the freezer, a setting at C is suitable.

The ideal temperature in the refrigerator ranges between 34 degrees F - 38 degrees F or 1 degrees C - 3 degrees C. So that foods such as vegetables and fruits remain fresh and crisp, the temperature may be set around 38 degrees F or 3 degrees C.
The ideal temperature in the freezer ranges around 0 degrees F (-18 degrees C) or lower.

Is the dial to adjust temp coldest set at low numbers or high number?

The dial inside the fresh food compartment, the bottom compartment
set to middle or above (higher numbers mean colder). Usually 5 to 9 if it has numbers.

Freezer knob in the middle if it has one. (If you set a freezer knob to "colder" it cuts
off the cold air to the lower compartment). Hope this helps

Fridge not keeping cold whats the best temp. we only have no.s 1 to 10.

If your freezer side is capable of making ice, and that ice is dry and remains so,
the only issue you have is insufficient airflow to the reefer box section from the freezer.
The refrigerator section is 1005 reliant upon the frezers side for all of its cold air.
The refer box has no evaportator of its own, There are 2 settings or dials.

1 is the temperature thermostat, it actually controls the compresssor motors cycling,
thus box temperature as well, it often says 1-10 and off as well, the reamining setting, the one that cannot turn the compressor motor either off nor on is a damper door controller, that modulates the freezers airflow into the refers box!

This is where the problems occur, when one notices the reefers box warm they max both settings,
which seems logical , and is for the thermostat dials setting.
Where the major counter intuitive reality exists is the flapper dooors setting will say Colder and Warmer!!

Colder of course!! right?? No, it actually means and usually does say, Colder Freezer!!
not colder reefer! so you max or raise the thermostat, thats ok to do.
But maxing or raising the other setting is just starving the reefer box section from sufficient cold air flow to maintain adequate temps.

I have gone to hundreds of identical calls, Freezers ok, but Reefers warm! If the freezers making ice and the ice is dry, there is no problem with the refrigeration system, its airflow.
when defrost timers or heaters fail the symptoms may be as yours, however the freezer will slowly warm too much in another day or so. But if the freezers making ice for days and never getting wet theres a airflow issue period, you may need to remove the back wall panel in the freeezer to see the coils condition , is it icedd up or blocking airflow with icing/ is the ducting open between the freezer and reefer boxes?
setting both dials to the midway setting should work fine. the condenser coils may be dirty/dusty too, is the cardboard backing still in place on back? it needs to be there intact.
is there product inside the reefer box? if not add 3 gallons water.

My GE TFX30PP is constantly running and doesn't turn off. The freezer is very cold but the frig side isn't cold enough. A repair guy put in a new "cold contol" sensor but it didn't help.

This is a very common issue, If the freezer compartment is cold and making ice the
problem is simply airflow from the freezer into the refrigerated section.
Typically when one senses the refrigerator is warm they max out the settings
on both dials the thermostat with its 1-10 settings as well as off for the compressor.
This controls the compressor and temperature.
The additional setting or dial is for colder freezer or refrigerator as well , However
it simply opens or closes a flapper door between the freezer and refrigerator boxes.
When that dial or setting is maxed , it closes and makes the freezer colder, yet leaves the refrigerated section starved for sufficient airflow to maintain a cold box in the refrigerated section.
Just set the dial that does not turn the compressor off to the middle setting.
One can leave the thermostat that does control the compressor in the max setting , just not the colder freezer setting, If you notice colder isnt colder refrigerator, Its actually colder freezer, A common issue found on 25% of all refrigerator calls a simple setting adjustment.
Its easy to think that maxing out the settings makes for a colder refrigerator, it doesnt, it makes a colder freezer and warm rerigeration section.
If a freezer is making ice, theres nothing wrong with the unit other than airflow setting.
I would also clesan the condenser coils off.

With the BevAir DW49 does a lower number mean colder or warmer?

1 is usually the warmest setting. The higher the number to colder the setting. Start in the middle and make minor adjustments allowing considerable time in between to dial in the temp of your unit.

Temperature adjustment

Generally the freezer temp is the REAL temp of the unit. Fans, dampers and manual control levers let some of that cold freezer air into the refer compartment to cool it. Check your owners manual for damper operations if you have one. If you have a refer temp control all that does is control a damper to let the cold freezer air into the compartment. Also make sure you don't block off any of those vents in the refer or freezer compartment or bad air circulation can occur.
