Communication error with workforce 500

After loading Windows 7 I have been experiencing Communication errors. When in Maintainence Mode it doesn't even show the ink levels and that's where I get the error. I JUST replaced the ink in all cartridges. I was able to print a test page but only with colors, the black did not print. I've updated drivers, uninstalled/reinstalled the printer also.

SOURCE: Not printing after color cartridge ran out - new black cartridge installed.

Yes, this printer has fixed printheads and must have ink in each color to prevent damage to the printheads. Even when printing black only each color is spit in the servicing area to keep the printhead unclogged.

SOURCE: Won't print unless all ink cartridges have ink.

Try changing it in the properties section under device settings
or go to color management if you have it and change the setting to black only,.

SOURCE: Epson C43SX communication error

It is presumed the 6 posts in this problem are all from the same person. If one (or more) isn't, and my response below doesn't help, would you you start a new separate post on your particular problem.

A solitary blinking red light means that the ink level in one of your cartridges is low, but printing can continue normally until the ink runs out, at which point the red light becomes permanently on. You must now change the ink cartridge before the print will work again.

If the green light is flashing at the same time as the red one, this means the Waste Ink Pads in your printer are saturated with ink and the waste ink ("protection") counter has exceeded its limit. The Waste Ink Pads should be replaced as soon as possible. You can overcome this problem temporarily by using the SSC utility to reset the Protection Counter. This will stop the lights flashing and restore normal operation.

However, remember that eventually ink will overflow from the waste ink area and make a dreadful mess, so you must change the waste ink pads before this happens. This requires the disassembly of the printer. A copy of the service manual is available from a number of sellers - just Google "Epson C43 Service Manual". You will often find them for sale very cheaply on E-Bay. Note, however, if you can find or borrow any of the C40,42,44,60,62 service manuals, as far as ink pad replacement goes, they are the same.

If you decide to have a go at replacing the ink pads yourself, report back and I will provide further help.

The reference manual is at

which provides good information on the meanings of the error lights.

Please report back with further information if the above advice doesn't help.

SOURCE: Epson printer says "cannot recognize ink cartridges".

Are you using genuine epson cartridges? Many generics simply dont work on the newer printers. Once the printer decides the cartridge is empty, it sends a signal to the chip and that's it. You might hear ink, but if the chip says empty you can't use it. It also has the annoying habit of doing this when there's still 10-15% of the ink left.
I use reusable cartridges from They hold 2/3 more ink and the chips automatically reset to full if you remove and re-insert the cartridge. Instead of replacing the entire cartridge when it's empty, you pop out an internal ink tank and replace just that. So you know the chip has already been recognized by your printer. The ink tanks cost under $3. I think these are a brilliant invention.

Epson 1390 Error Code 20000011 Communication vodio

This error is shown when trying to use your printers compatible service utility on Windows Vista or Window 7.

You can resolve this by using compatibility mode as described here:

Some users have found that Windows XP mode is not always required but "Run as an administrator" does appear to be required in most instances. This varies from model to model..
