This is going to be a problem that will need to be tracked down because there are several things that could cause this. It's going to be in the electrical system, and any one or combination of the following can cause this, Faulty switch, especially the ignition switch, bad wiring which could be a bad connection, loose ground, bare wire, or broken wire, These are the two cheapest, but the hardest to find. Now, it can also be a bad or malfunctioning ignition module, coil, voltage regulator, and magneto assembly. You will have to test each of these. I recommend that you start at the spark plug end and work your way back since most of this is in line and work in conjunction with each other. Keep in mind that this being an intermittent problem, it may be extremely hard to find.
I also have a 95 Softail, and recently had a similar intermittent problem, turned out that there was a hairline crack in the regulator, and the problem would only occur if the regulator was warm enough for the crack to open a bit. I also traced the wiring harness, found and replaced several wires that were in bad shape, thinned, stretched, corroded, etc... You will be amazed at how much wear the wiring harness will have on a 13 year old bike.
Don't let this discourage you. In my opinion, the mid to late 90's models are the best HD ever built, and the Evo is by far the best engine. With the newer bike you have to worry about things like, crank and cam sensors, ECM's, fuel injection, and all the other electronic BS. It's to the point that the average rider can't work on his/her own bike, which is getting away from the HD tradition. That's a great bike you have, keep it for a long time. I may buy a newer bike someday, I don't know, but I do know that I will always keep my 95. Good luck with this and be safe.

SOURCE: Horn does not work

First check the two wires going to the rear of the Horn. One ground One Power. If they are connected to the horn then check the ground wire it comes lose most often. If you have power to the Horn then the Horn is defective. If you have no power to the horn it is necessary to trace up to your switch houseing. Usually the problem is ground, I have found defective horns but not often. You can take the horn off and using a battery and wire touch the two prongs in the back of the horn.If it works then the problem is either ground or power. Make sure horn is grounded. Usually the problem is a grounding one. Good Luck.

Why 1992harley pumps oil when cranking over to star

Check your oil tank level. If it is empty or very low, the oil has seeped by the oil pump check valve and has filled the engine cases with oil. I assume the oil is coming out the air cleaner breather tube? If so, add a quart or so to the oil tank, run the breather hose into a can or bottle, and start it up. Oil will flow out the breather until the cases have been purged. When it stops pumping out refill the oil tank to the proper level. This can happen when the bike has been sitting for a few months or more.

Look at the various videos online (youtube and fixmyhog). The main thing is to not spill oil when removing the oil filter. Ruins the front engine mount.

Do I need to drain the engine case on my 2002 Fat Boy when changing the oil?

Most people don't bother, because if everything is working right, it'll only have 2-3 tablespoons worth of oil, so it's hardly worth it.

It sounds to me that you have excessive pressure in the crankcase possible from a broken ring or a cracked piston.

93 Fatboy oil leaking from vent tube at air filter. oil level is good, not over filled, oil will cover the oil tank on a 100 mile trip

On your '93 model, the crankcase vent is down low on the engine behind the oil pump and it runs up to the air filter through a metal and rubber hose. I don't know how many miles you have on your engine but it you're getting any blow-by on the rings, this will increase the pressure in the crankcase. Most people simply re-route the crankcase breather underneath the bike and plug the hole on the backside of the air filter. Replace the metal line with a rubber hose and put a small filter in the end of the hose. Route the hose back behind the transmission and attach it to the transmission mounting plate just in front of the rear wheel.

This was the way the older Shovelheads were done from the factory for years until the EPA made them start running the crankcase vented air through the engine. In 1994, Harley went to the "head breather" system and moved the crankcase vents to the heads. Still, the oil mist in the vented air builds up in the air cleaner on these models as well.

Good Luck

How do i change my oil in my 1999 Harley fatboy

From the right side of your bike, look for a large hose coming out of the backside of the oil tank at it's lowest point. Follow the hose down behind the transmission on down to a clip on the lower tube of the frame behind the exhaust pipes. There is a metal plug in the hose. Simply take the hose out of the clip and reroute it below the frame. Remove the plug and the oil tank filler cap and the oil will drain out. Refill with three quarts of 20W50 oil.

Good Luck

Will exhaust from 2003 harley fat boy fit a 1999 harley fat boy

I doubt it. The Fat Boy is a member of the Softail family. In 1999, the Softails were running Evolution engines. They didnt' go to the TC-88B engine until 2000 and that required a frame change. I don't think it will fit but you never really know until you try it.

On my 2003 fat boy all oil from tank is in engine and won't return whats the cause ? runs real rough

Ok, I'm not exactly sure what the problem is on your Twin Cam but I can assure you that it is oil pump related. One the earlier models with the external pump, you had two pumps in one body. One pump was a "feed" pump that pumped oil into the engine. The other pump was a "scavenger" pump that pumped oil out of the engine back to the tank.

When Harley designed the Twin Cam engine, they employed a better design of pump inside the engine. It's located in the gear case along with the cams. I do not know too much about the Twin Cam engine as I specialize on the older Evolution, Shovelhead, and Panhead engnes. The older engines had a breather gear that used the crankcase pressure built up inside the engne to blow the oil from the crankcase into the gear case. I don't know if the Twin Cam still uses that method of getting the oil out of the crankcase and into the gear case.

So, with my limited knowledge of the oil pump on the Twin Cam, I'd say that this is the problem. You need to find someone that is familiar with the construction of the pump. It may be that the entire pump is bad or something as simple as a sheared pin.

Good Luck
Steve

Oil come out the air cleaner

Too much crankcase pressure or the breather pipe is split/dosconnected. The crankcase breather goes into the rear of the air filter and the crankcase gasses are drawn in to the cylinder with the gas/air mixture and burned
