WinXP installation stuck on accept license agreement

I'm trying to instal Wondows XP on a Dell Mini 1012 netbook via an external CD-Rom drive. Everything works fine until I get to the Windows XP Licensing Agreement. Both F8 to agree and page down do nothing. I can, however press escape to cancel. I'd really like to be able to get this working. Any ideas?

SOURCE: Installing Win XP, F8 key to agree to EULA wont respond

Sounds like the keyboard mapping on your laptop is non-standard in some way, and so the installer is waiting for F8 coming from a different key. Try the other function keys and work your way around the keyboard until you find what F8 is mapped to.

It is also possible you have a bad keyboard, but this is pretty rare.

Bought new hard drive for mini 1012 dell bios sees new hard drive but when i try to install windows xp , xp says no mass storage device detected.

In the bios change the drive options to anything but AHCI if possible. You will need a windows xp driver and USB floppy disk to install the AHCI or SSD driver. It's also referred to as an F6 Floppy. Dell should have the download you need.

Hi, I am adil. I am trying to install Windows XP on my Dell mini Inspiron 1020 but failed. Please provide me details steps.

Method 1: Perform a clean install of Windows XPA clean installation consists of removing all data from your hard disk by repartitioning and reformatting your hard disk and reinstalling the operating system and programs to an empty (clean) hard disk. For more information about important things to consider before you partition and format you hard disk and how to partition and format your hard disk by using the Windows XP Setup program, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 313348 How to partition and format a hard disk by using Windows XP Setup programTo perform a clean installation of Windows XP, follow these steps:
  1. Back up all important information before you perform a clean installation of Windows XP. Save the backup to an external location, such as a CD or external hard disk.
  2. Start your computer from the Windows XP CD. To do this, insert the Windows XP CD into your CD drive or DVD drive, and then restart your computer.

Note To boot from your Windows XP CD, the BIOS settings on your computer must be configured to do this.
  3. When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD" message, press any key to start the computer from the Windows XP CD.
  4. At the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to start Windows XP Setup.
  5. Read the Microsoft Software License Terms, and then press F8.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to select and format a partition where you want to install Windows XP.

If you have successfully installed Windows XP, you are finished.

Inspiron mini 10 with windows xp wont boot from external drives to fix mbr, it does not have a recovery partition, i have tried all the f buttons and ctrl buttons to get to boot from those devices but no...

If you do not have a RECOVERY CD then contact Dell topurchase this Recovery CD for your model Dell laptop. Boot up using the RecoveryCD and follow the instructions.
The other way is to re- install Windows using a Windows installation CD; itmust match the Windows version on the Windows Product Code label on the bottomof your laptop. Boot up using the Windows installation CD and follow theinstructions. Next install all of the Dell's computer/laptop devicedrives. Next install the Windows service packs (SP2 & SP3 forXP, SP1 & SP2 for Vista) Next Activate Windows via the Internet or by phone. Next install your programs - Microsoft Office etc. Next click on Start - Programs - Windows Update (for thelatest updates).
The device drivers for your model computer/laptop can be downloaded from theDell WEB support site. To download the drivers from Dell WEB site, select yourmodel desktop or laptop, or a better option, type in the Service Tag number, this is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop and on the back orsides of a desktop. (If the Service Tag label is missing then go the BIOSsetting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will bedisplayed). The Service Tag will open the page where the drivers specific foryour model computer/laptop are located. Also make sure you select the WindowsXP or Vista version of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Click onthis link to download the drivers: - http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen

You need an External CD Rom or a Pen Drive.

If you can get access to a pendrive which is not less than 4 GB storage capacity.

Back up the files before creating a USB-Based Installer.

Bought a new computer and want to use usb 3g adapter on new computer. I think I need to install software, however there is no disk drive as it is a netbook

Dear johnls,
Try to copy the installation CD to a flashdisk the run the installation from flashdisk when you connect it via USB jack on your netbook.
Or try to connect the external Optic Drive (CD/DVD ROM), wait until the netbook complete the installation of your optic drive. Restart your netbook with external CD ROM connected via USB jack, then run the 3G installation from your External CD ROM.

GoodLuck!

Best regards,

Try a Repair Install with your WinXP Bootable CD. If Repair option fails you will have to do a Clean Reinstall of WinXP as a last resort.
Some details:
1. Boot with your WinXP CD
2.At the "Welcome To Setup" screen, Choose the option:
To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER. DO NOT choose !!!! To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R. IGNORE
To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3
3. Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations. 4.Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. If Repair is not one of the options, under the Circumstances you are in the next option will be Clean install
5. I this does not work it might be your memory --download and burn to cd memtest (http://www.memtest86.com/) and test your memory for errors.

You should re-install the winxp again. For doing it without losing any existing data, do it as per the following instructions: - Boot your computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS so the CD boots before the hard drive. When you see the welcom setup screen, chose the "To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER" option. DO not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R" !!!! Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations. Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. Setup will copy files to the hard drive will reboot tour computer and will start winxp installation. Good luck !
