Question about Brother SE-270D Computerized Sewing Machine

1 Answer

My Brother SE-270D Disney Sewing and Embroidery Machine is acting up...mostly when I try to bind a blanket together...it acts like it is going to work...then 10 stitches later (not literally) it starts to make these atrocious sounds and then an error comes up saying that the safety whatever has been activated, and the back of the fabric is a comeplete mess. I have tried TONS of things to get this to stop, but it seems to want to keep messing up...please help

The machine needs to be serviced so you can find out about the unusual sounds

Idk how to get it serviced, it was a gift from my grandma....? are there places for that? or do you have to send it off somewhere?

  • the place where your grandma bought the machine, if it's still under warrenty.
if it's not under warrenty then a sewing machine shop that does repairs

SOURCE: Instrucitnos for Brother SE-270D Timing Problem

This is not really something you can do yourself (been there, tried that!). The machine has to be almost completely disassembled to get to the timing mechanism. Trust me, it's worth the 30.00 to have it timed.
I think http://www.allbrands.com has a generic timing explaination for sewing machines (use the drop in bobbin one)...I found it easy to follow...but once I realized I had to unplug all the components for the computerized functions... I took it in to the dealer. If you contact Brother & your machine is under warranty, they will pay for the repair (they paid for my first two re-timings). Now I know you HAVE to use BOBBIN thread that is 60 WT only in the bobbin. You will continue to have problems if you don't. Also, this machine uses the class 15 bobbin, but make sure its model number SA156A, which is a hair taller than the SA156 bobbin..both are class 15, but the tiny difference is very important.

but is the carriage moving,? if not disconnect and try to connect again, the embroidery hoop holder usually moves to check itself, if it still does the same thing the connection that goes onto the machine is not making a proper connection, I also had this problem, with a 2100 brother , I fixed it by using a crochet hook and just tightening the connection that connects to the machine on the embroidery unit, but tread very carefully it just takes a slight move. if this fails it will have to be adjusted cost is usually $100au

SOURCE: Thread tangles under throat plate while embroidering

Take the cover off or at least enough to blow the gear drives out around the area of the thread cutter. We use a air pump that you use to blow up an air mattress with. You will also need tweezers to pick out the thread etc. that gets wrapped around the gear and in the teeth. What happens is the gear drive gets clogged and does not turn freely.

Take it in for service, hopefully it is still under warranty, I have sneaking suspician that your motor is causing the problem. I had a machine that did that and it turned out to be the motor.

I have a Disney Brother SE-27OD Embroidery Sewing Machine When I am doing the embroidery the needle comes out I put it in as tight as possible but it keeps happening from time to time.

Make sure you have the flat part of the needle to the back when putting it in and that it's (preferably) a Schmetz embroidery needle with the red band either 75 or 90 or a Schmetz universal 80. Make sure when you install it you can see the top of the needle in the needle slot and all the way up so it's hitting the post before you turn the screw tight. Check the screw each time you sew to make sure it hasn't shaken loose from embroidering.

I need a replacement needle to embroidery. need to know the model#. I have a Brother SE-270D Easy Thread Cassette System.

The thread cassette has no bearing on what needle you use. You need a Schmetz embroidery needle with the red band size 75 for light to medium weight fabrics or a size 90 for heavier fabrics such as denim.

Error message on Brother SE-270D sewing machine

The safety device will activate if the machine has a bind or is unable to run at correct speed. If you turn the handwheel is it tight/hard to turn? if it is than thats it. Now what is binding the machine has to be diagnosed.

Embroidery machine patterns are not consistant

I'm just beginning to work with my machine, but I have had a similar issue. Some of the possible solutions that I have found include (note: I've tried #1, I will try 2 and 3 soon)...
1. use stabilizer fabric.
2. if you're using tear-away stabilizer, and it is tearing prematurely, try a cut-away stabilizer (or maybe iron-on stabilizer?).
3. if you're embroidering on fabric like fleece, try 'hoopless embroidery' This involves using adhesive stabilizer - put the stabilizer in the hoop with no fabric, (if you don't have adhesive stabilizer, use regular stabilizer and spray it with a craft adehesive) then lay your fabric over the hoop and press the fabric onto the adhesive.
good luck.
