Question about Lenovo 3000 Y410 Notebook

1 Answer

DVD Drive isn't detected.

I can't use my DVD drive because it doesn't appear in the My Computer window. I tried to have it detected in the Device Manager but it didn't work. Is there any solution I could do that doesn't require me to bring it to a service center, as I really can't afford to not use this computer even for a single day due to work concerns. Thanks.

I did this deleting the filter thing and restarting, but it still didn't fix the problem for me. I still couldn't get the DVD/CD to reappear in my Device Manager - no detection of DVDs or CDs at all.

    Did it work before?

Is this a USB drive? or is it in the computer itself?

Yes this issue would be resolved with a simple step which i have provided below.

Click Start, click Run, type regedit and then click OK. Registry Editor starts.

In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand and open
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>Control>Class
Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
In the right pane (topic area), right click UpperFilter and delete the entry, also right click Lower Filter and delete the entry.

Close the Registry Editor and Restart the computer.

I am sure that this will work for you.

Please do rate the solution.

Dvd not working on my E-SYSTEM sorrento 1

A couple troubleshooting steps.
Power the laptop off and remove the battery. There will either be a single screw on the back of the laptop or a spring button next to the DVD tray. Push the button to pop out the DVD player or remove screw, stick a paper clip in the tiny hole next to the DVD eject button and pull the DVD drive out and then firmly push the drive back in to verify it isn't seated all the way. Now put the battery back in and power on the laptop. Enter BIOS and check through the menus and ensure the DVD drive is not disabled. If you have followed these steps. Refer to the next section.

If you answer yes to any of the following you will need to replace the drive.
  • When you press the button, the drive does not light up or open
  • When you put a disc in the drive it doesn't detect the disc.
  • The DVD drive doesn't show up in device manager or under "Computer/My Computer"

If in device manager you see a yellow ! or ? on the DVD drive you will need to restore the computer because the driver corrupted and typically you can't repair them.

Bad hard drive

First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

The dvd player wont open and it isn't reading dvd's.

You will want to check in Device Manager to see if the device is even detected by the computer. Right Click My Computer, Properties, Click Hardware Tab and Device Manager. If it isn't recognizing the DVD drive then it is most likely bad.

Dell Inspiron 600m: No Boot Device. I'm a computer

Have you tried resetting the BIOS defaults? In doing so, it will force IDE re-detection and often resolve vague boot issues.

I have an HP pavilion slimline s3600f desktop pc and the optical disk drive doesn't seem to be reading cd's or DVD's.

Check the Device Manager to make sure that the OS does not have any issues with the device. If there is an exclamation point ( ! ), then Windows has issue with it. If there is an " ! " then right-click on the device and select update driver.

If the drive shows in My Computer, right-click on the drive and select "eject" from the list. This will verify that the OS is talking to the device.

Check your BIOS settings to make sure that it appears in the BIOS and is not disabled.

Also, Microsoft recently released an update to disable Auto-Play on CD/DVD drives. If Auto-Play isn't working (due to this update), then put a music/movie cd/dvd into the drive and open Windows Media player and try to play the disc through there.

The drive may not be "broken" it just may be that auto-play has been turned off by Microsoft.

CD player will not work

Try a different CD. iIf the computer doesn't recognize it at all, listen for the drive to spin and look for a blinking light on the CD tray. These signs do not necessarily mean the CD drive isn't broken. I would find the model number of your laptop and do a search on eBay for a replacement CD drive. These are very easy to switch out. If the new one works, then you're set. If it doesn't work, there may be an issue with your motherboard.

My DVD drive has suddenly stopped working. When you put in a DVD the drive makes a noise like it's about to boot up, but then it doesn't boot up. Windows explorer is showing that there is a DVD drive, but...

1. If you have AnyDVD installed this will happen if you don't have it running in the backgorund. 2. If you're not using AnyDVD, mostly likely your drive has gone bad but you should try to uninstall the device and its drivers first, power down your computer pull the drive, boot up you computer so it sees that it's gone, then power down your computer, reinstall the drive, reboot the computer, let windows auto-detect and install the drive and its built-in drivers then go online and find the most updated drivers and firmware for your model of drive. The manufacturer's website will have them. If after you install the new drivers and it still doesn't work it's definitely ready to be replaced.
Good luck!

Dvd/cd-rw drive doesnt appear in my computer

I had the same problem after running the software "SuperISO", this software reset my DVD drive and make it becomes a hard drive instead. Google SuperISO you find more info about it.

Anyway, I have to reinstall window vista, and after boot up, device manager does not know the DVD drive or displays it at all.

Accidentally I resolved this issue a few days latter. One day when the computer is off, I plug in a new device "Optical mouse", and boot up my computer. The program automatic detect a new hardware run and install a necessary driver for a new hardware, after that, it also detect my DVD drive and install the driver for it.

After the computer boot up, I got my DVD drive back and it working fine like before, does not cost me a dime.

In your case, try to plug in any new device and boot up your pc. Good Luck
