Question about SimpleTech SimpleDrive Pininfarina 320GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive - Blue

1 Answer

I have a SimpleTech Pininfarina 320GB External HDD, however when I have it all hooked up and powered on, the computer does not acknowledge it. HELP?!

The red light on the back is on and when I initially power it up the blue ring on the top flashes. After that, nothing.

They are quite a lot of different formats that hard drives can be run in. Fat 32, NTFS has several formatsof its own. Then there are the Linux and UNIX and Apple formats. By rights many are supposed to be compatible but the some reason they don't always work together.Have you tried running the new hardware installation wizard?I will have a look and see if I can find any information on this problem as I find it to be quite common.Hope this helpsregards

SOURCE: SimpleTech SimpleDrive Pininfarina 320GB Power up problem

It could be that it's internal power supply burnt out,
in which case the drive itself could still be fine.

Try opening up the external case, and removing the drive.
Once you do, plug it in to your computer directly using its SATA cables, and see if that works.

Hope I helped,
Tom

SOURCE: SimpleTech SimpleDrive Pininfarina 320GB, I

http://www.hitachigst.com/support/index-files/simpletech-legacy-downloads. I am unsure which SimpleDrive version you have, but if it's the regular (not deluxe, mini, or 3.0), it should be the first driver on that page, assuming that Windows XP doesn't install the drivers itself when you plug it in.

If it is a new hard drive then it needs to be formatted. You can do this by going into your start menu - control panel - administrative tools - computer management - disc manager. I could be a little off on the wording as I don't have my computer handy, but in the disc management you should be able to right click on the drive in here and choose format. This will format the drive to be used. I hope this helps.

Hello sir, let me give you some tips, you can dismantle it and get the HDD unit, buy a cheap external SATA usb hdd enclosure with USB 2.0 . Well all of them are 2.0 compatible (the unit without the HDD) and put it there. you can always keep the old one for posterity. hope this helps.

SimpleTech 320GB Not Found by PC

Very simple solution. Your external storage cabinet for the drive is junk. I opened mine up and its just fitting loosely in it. You will void your warranty if you do - but who cares, the cost to send it in for an RMA is equal to the cost for a 2.5" SATA enclosure. When you open it up, the SATA and Power connector is not all the way in - push it in and then tape it so it holds together. Plug it in and you should be fine. Fixed two of them that way.
