It should work with the remote by holding the forward or revese buttons while using. To increase speed press the ff or rev buttons again.

I have just bought a new PD-DVR100 DVD recorder and am trying to use it but when i press setup nothing else shows for me to make any settings.

I'm sorry for the difficulties you're experiencing in using the DVD Recorder. Based on the information you have provided, please follow the below troubleshooting steps and check the operation:

Please make sure that the connections are secure and proper. (You have not mentioned the type of connection that you're using to connect the Recorder to the TV. You may use Component, S-Video or Composite Video connection to setup the Recorder with the TV).

Please make sure that you have selected proper input on the TV to view the setup screen of the Recorder on the TV screen. (Most of the TVs have an INPUT button or TV/VIDEO button to change the input. If you're not sure with the input selection method, you may refer the manual of the TV or get back to me with the exact model # of the TV so that I can help you with INPUT SELECTION)

Turn off both TV and Recorder and check the operation.

Unplug the Recorder from wall outlet for more than two minutes to perform a Power resetting and check the operation.

Try connecting the Recorder to the TV using a different cable.

If the issue persists, please get back to me with more details about the issue like the type of connection and model # of the TV etc.

Thanks for understanding. Please let me know if you require any clarification on the provided steps.

Thanks for understanding.

Hi, I have a Panasonic model DMR-EX79. When I turn it on it says a new channel has been found. I click 'yes' and it re-tunes all channels. Then it says a new channel has been found and it keeps...

Pages 59 of the operation manual onwards detail common procedures for SETUP by using [FUNCTIONS] button on the remote.

While unit is stopped, or no discs loaded, press [FUNCTIONS] button to enter the setup menu on-screen. Using UP/DOWN arrow buttons, scroll down to 'OTHERS' and then select 'DISPLAY' tab. Once there, under 'New Channel Message' - if it is currently set to AUTOMATIC, set it to OFF, then exit the setup menu completely. This should solve future instances of nagging 'new channel found' (when it is clear the unit cannot receive it - especially HD channels or Pay-TV ones) messages.

You can always reset the unit to factory defaults later on if necessary, and this simple suggestion (as outlined in the manual) at least saves you the agony of a workshop technician telling you the same thing (although worded differently and probably not as nicely as here) then charging you per hour for it.

You can always download a free pdf copy of the manual for this very model DVD recorder unit if you have misplaced your original. Just right click the button 'GET THIS MANUAL' and save it to your PC from the following link.

Good luck. Hope this helps a tiny bit.

How to get unit to play without remote

You can probably use the front panel buttons (STOP PLAY OPEN/CLOSE etc) manually, the only thing you cannot do without the remote is access certain DVD menus, including subtitles/language/special features etc. You can always obtain and use a universal remote for basic menu functions later on if necessary.

To play a DVD movie without the remote, simply load your preferred disc, wait for the player to finish reading its contents, then to skip copyright warnings and/or the 'play movie' menu screen, press STOP, then PLAY, or simply press PLAY button where 'play movie' (or whatever function) is highlighted in the menu. These buttons should be on the front of the main unit. Doing this should encourage the player to detect the appropriate title (the movie) and play it (basic playback operation may not be possible with some DVD releases due to the numerous interactive menus and title pages, such as film trailers).

If basic manual operation is not completely possible with some DVD titles, consider a universal remote for your player if you have either lost your original, or the player was purchased/received without one. Such remotes are relatively inexpensive to purchase, and are available just about everywhere.

Try using the ff buttons and the reverse buttons on the player itself. That might have a scene selection option to it.

The company that made these players went of business in November. Wal Mart is exchanging them if anything goes wrong with them.

U61 error won't go away

I've solved my problem - thanks to a suggestion on another site. Apparently the machine is sensitive to the type of disc when it has a problem - I inserted an identical make and type of disc (RW in my case) and it then completed its 'restore to normal operation' and the error msg went away.

Also suggested but didn't work in my case was opening the flap on the front, and with the machine OFF, press and hold STOP and Channel UP.

Hope this helps

U61 error problem

The manual refers to the U61 as being a recovery mode. Have you left it at U61 for a period of time while it tries to recover?
U61 ≥There was a power failure or the AC plug was disconnected while the unit was on. The unit is
carrying out its recovery process. This process restores the unit to normal operation. The unit is not
broken. Wait until the message disappears.
You could always try to force it into standby mode and back out again:
Press [í/I, POWER] on the main unit to switch the unit to standby.
Now press [í/I, POWER] on the main unit again to turn the unit on.
If that doesn't take care of it, everything thing I've found points toward a replacement of components inside the system by a repair service. Hopefully you are still under warranty!

No Disk

When I try to play a DVD, operation seems normal, the unit makes a slight noise like the disk is rotating and "Loading" is displayed. Then after about 30 seconds the message "No Disk" is displayed. Then just the Polaroid screen is displayed. I have lost the remote control but surely the unit will play using the front panel buttons. One thing, only the remote is named as having a Setup Button in the manual but the unit has no such button.
