I seem to have screwed up my picture size. Was trying to get a bigger on-screen picture, but wound up making it small & distorted-looking. What settings should I have set? Thanks!

It would be on the TV remote usually for "pic size/resolution" You can probably find the resolution settings in the picture menu. 4:3, theater wide, etc.

Yes please help us why it looks like so small

If you are referring to the desktop and the icons being small, just change the screen resolution. Right click your desktop and choose Properties or Screen Resolution. Just decrese the resolution if you want the icons to get bigger. Otherwise, let me know what is seem to be small.

My text is too small. how do I make it bigger?

All you have to do is to reduce the display resolution. Go to Control Pannel, Open Display and goto advance. As marked and shown in the picture below. Reduce the resolution one step and see it suits you.

Change 72 dpi to 300 dpi

Your camera cannont shoot at either 72 dpi or 300 dpi. It shoots at whatever resolution you have it set for. Dpi (dots per inch) is a print specification, denoting how large (or small) your pictures are printed.

The DSC-W100's highest resolution is 3264x2448. Printed at 72 dpi, it can generate a print bigger than 40x30 inches, albeit a bit grainy. Printed at 300 dpi, you can generate 10x8 inch prints.

Again, dpi is a measure of how you print pictures. It has no bearing on how you capture images with your camera.

When recomended screen resolution (1289 x 1024) is used Sceren display size far too small

The reason why everything is too small is because you can now see your screen on a wider/bigger view of the graphics (it's like looking down from a tall building or looking down from an airplane. The difference is that looking at your screen is not that far. The Resolution is higher than before, graphics, pictures/images, video games, movies are all displayed fine. Having a high resolution screen is a GOOD THING! If you are not comfortable with this kind of high resolution then you can switch back to lower resolution but of course the consequences would be other softwares/programs may not work. It's just your personal perception.

The letters on my computer r so small i cant read them, how can i make them bigger

You likely have your resolution too high.  I prefer my resolution high but I can read small writing easily.   To change this right-click your desktop and choose personalize then display settings  adjust to a lower resolution but try to keep the aspect ratio similar to the ratio of the monitor you are using or the image will look squished.  once you have finalized your decision you will have to tweak it using the controls on your monitor to stretch the picture out to the edge of your monitor.    Also you can use the ease of access in the control panel for an on screen magnifier, or simply increase the font size in personalize (left column) adjust font size (DPI) (dots per inch)

I want to increase the size of the small drawings i do from my epson 1250 scanner to my canon 1800ip to a4 printout size is this possible.

You have to scan the pictures with a higher resolution to be able to print them in a larger format with acceptable quality.

If your default scanning setting is, say, 150dpi resolution, and you want the picture to be enlarged twofold, then you have to increase the resolution to 300dpi. If you have 300dpi now, increase it to 600dpi.
Some scanner utilities do a fully automatic scan - then you have to find the automatic scan settings and change the default resolution. Or better yet, find an option for a non-automatic scan, where you are presented with various options after the preview scan has been done. There you can usually set the desired size, resolution, improve contrast, sharpness etc.

Generally, the higher the scanning resolution, the more detail you have on the picture, and the higher magnification you can obtain when printing without quality loss.

But there's a catch - a picture in higher resolution produces a bigger file on disk - the file size grows faster then the resolution - a two times bigger picture will be four times bigger on disk. So you have to make sensible choice.

Enlarging file size of pictures

That camera shoots at 7.2Megapixels at max resolution, that should print an 8.5x11 without any issue.

Check the settings on the camera to make sure that you've got it set to take "high" resolution, and not "low".

In the settings, there should be a resolution option that you can change. It's likely set to take lower resolution that what the camera can actually handle.
