Re: kenmre upright washer
If you have a Kenmore topload washer chances are you do not have a belt on this machine. They are direct drive and they have a motor to transmission coupling. If you tip the machine back you sould see it between the motor and trans. It will be two plastic pieces and a black rubber middle. If this item is broken that is what you will need. To replace it you will need to remove the cabinet to access the pump and motor. the cabinet is held on by two clips that are located under the control panel. The control panel will flip up when the two phillip screws are removed from each side of it. On the newer models the screws may be on the back left and right of the control panel or covered by the front trim pieces. After removing the cabinet you will see the pump in the front bottom center held in place by two clamps, then again you will see two clamps holding the motor, usually the clamps on the motor are held inplace with a 1/4 inch screw. After removing the motor you can easily replace the coupling. Be sure to replace all pieces of the new coupling. If you use pieces from the old coupling they may be different sized and cause problems later for you. If you have more problems just call us and we will be happy to help you further. I hope the will fix ya and dont forget to rate me.

you probably need to replace your brushroll seeing that your belt is burning means motor is turning. first check you brushroll and see if there is an obstruction keeping it from spinning if its not spinning freely replace
To put on a kirby belt all you need to do is put on the belt on the brushroll, put the brushroll into the housing making sure the marks on the end of the brushroll are the same. Take the spin dial in the front and "hook" the belt till the dial reads off. Put the head back on the machine and spin the dial to "on".
Sounds as if the v-belt came off the idler arm or you broke the v-belt. Either way, take the 4 screws out of the plate around the roller brush and make certain the belt is there and that it sits on the idler wheel. If you remove the roller brush you'll see the wheel. Pay attention to how the ends of the roller brush go back into the vacuum when inserting it and put the plate back on. Also check the thicker main belt is in place as well, it's to the left of the v-belt.
Also, the roller brush should stop when you put it in the upright position. Next time just stand it upright so the throw rug doesn't get drawn quite so far into the vacuum.
http://geeksquad.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?prdid=414813&thid=453845 Brushroll not spinning Posted by vistaloopy on Mar 19, 2008 I have a Eureka Bagless Optima 431 Lightweight Upright that is not working. I took it apart to clean the brushroll and have tried to put it back together several times, but the brushroll will not spin anymore. Maybe I'm putting the belt in the wrong spot? Where can I find a diagram or something? Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Eureka 431A Optima Bagless Upright Vacuum. You have only 2 choices, the belt is either side driven belt or the belt is a center driven belt and the brushroll has one side that is for the belt and the side driven brushroll and the motor pulley must be in line in order to work properly, you may want to check the bearing holders, some vacs will mark the ends with words like NEW or USED and both have to be identical in order to fit right. Once you have the brushroll out it should spin if you set it on it’s side and if that happens you are OK, then watch the ends of the brushroll. Align the end with the motor pulley, B4 install the belt place the belt on the pulley side and install the brushroll. Then once the brushroll is in and spins properly, and then you can use a belt puller and stretch the belt onto the motor pulley and then track it in a straight line. belt doesnt have to be broken, check the metal arm on the vacuum, see if there is build up of old rubber from previous belts, clean the arm that spins the belt and double check to make sure u have the correct belt
