If the network controller is built-in on the laptop then you can download it from the laptop's manufacturer WEB site.
Since you did not provide the make and model of your laptop I cannot direct you to that WEB site.

Dog eat the disc

I'm guessing your trying to say the dog ate the disc that came with your Retractable Ethernet Cable? You're fine. It's just an ethernet cable, you can use them without the disc.

Ethernet controller didn't work

Have you checked your drivers?
Go to control panel - system - device manager
Or control panel - type in device manager (depending on your os)

If there is a question mark beside your ethernet controller than you need to update the driver. If you have the disc pop it in the computer and then right click the ethernet controller and click update driver and then follow the wizard through and that should fix it if the driver isn't there.
If you haven't got the disc you will need to download the driver from the manufacturers site.

Laptop wont read discs

i had the same problem and posted it on this site to what might work is this:

Always backup your registry before editing and use care to find exact key!
Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click)

Find "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" (and "UpperFilters.bak" "LowerFilters.bak", if they exist) value under the following key in the registry, and delete it:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Quit Registry Editor.

Reboot.

NOTE: You might need to reinstall any CD recording apps you have, if they start to not work completely, after doing this

CREDITS GO TO CRICHNER for helping me out on this one!!

Have you tried other discs? Does it read CD or recognize blank discs? Have you tried a bootable disc to see if it reads prior to Windows loading?
